I was sitting in church, and I had a very sharp pain in my back. It was so uncomfortable. I prayed "God, please relieve me from this pain" and Instantly the pain was gone. Later, I told my husband what happened (hes agnostic) and he said "the Mind is a very powerful thing."
Could the human mind be so powerful as to heal oneself? Or could only God have done this?

For the Record, I believe it was God. I just am interested in other people's opinion.

Both are entirely possible...but lets explore this a little more if it was "just your mind," who gave you such an amazing mind? Who helped your mind create that extra pain killing chemicals to help you feel better?
The way I see it, either way, it would be appropriate to thank God.
Thanks

This is from a firewalker who has walked though a 100 fires or more. They say it is satanic or evil or some simple law of physics, but they have never proved it.
YOUR MIND IS POSSIBLY THE MOST POWERFUL INSTRUMENT THAT CAN EXIST. Especially within your own body. You can heal just about anything. You use god as the mental instrument to do it. Other people use something else or focus on something else, but in the final analysis it is you and your mind that does it. Believe that and you can do just about anything.

Good question for once...
And the answer is... its your own mind.
I'd know because I'm certainly not theistic and I can do this sorta stuff all the time. If you believe strongly enough that the pain will go away then it can. Its not the influence of a god.... but simply that such things as pain are signals within the brain... the same brain that does the believing. When you believe things are a certain way, the body will accordingly act as if they are that way.... which generally means, within the bounds of the body and its ability to self-maintain... that they will become that way.
Self-suggestion is a powerful force...
Unfortunately... its so powerful that a lot of idiots think they've experienced divine healing and use that to justify their god..... which is a shame.
Just check the other answers for proof of that.

At least you're asking the question - seriously, I think.
I can provisionally admit the possibility of a "higher power" that may in fact be identical with some deep part of our minds, or may inform our minds in some way. What I can't admit is that this higher power is somehow linked to, e.g., a 2,000-years-dead magical carpenter. I think there's plenty of evidence that serious devotees of practically all world religions have had what we call, for lack of a better term, a "spiritual experience." It seems most reasonable to assume that their experiences are more or less identical in essence, but filtered through the terminology of their own particular cults to produce what appear to be contending theologies.
Of course, maybe you just had temporary back pain. Occam's Razor!

Yes, the human mind is very powerful when it comes to healing. In your case, however, I'd imagine the pain just stopped. Those things happen. I wouldn't expect it to have keep hurting forever. You just pinched a nerve or something.

Of Course God can heal! GOD DOES HEAL! And there are times when we ask God for healing and it is in his own timing- not right away- but there are many times God heals us instantly! It strengthens our faith in Him and draws us closer to Him....Of course your husband would say that- anyone who does not want to believe in the One and only Almighty God- will use any excuse.
Did you have faith when you prayed? Do you have faith that God can heal?

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

I think both. Similar things have happened to me when I also have asked for his intervention God is the universal healer. He is willing to heal you but you have to do your part. It is a matter of faith and desire.

Two options: a) Mind or b) it was a back pain that was going to go away anyway. I get that all the time.
If god can heal stuff like that, how about eradicating malaria? Someone's backache is not exactly impressive, in the great scheme of things.

My guess it was just a minor thing that was going to go away anyway. Had nothing to do with God or your mind. Your husbend sounds like he's teasing you.
