You didn't mention the age of the son. This was an unhelpful omission to your question.

ASSUMPTION 1 (SON >18)

If the mother has agreed that her son be present in a medical situation for the purposes of translation, then there are no "issues". She obviously knows where in her body the problem is.

You have to be aware that most non-white families are much closer than British families. The whole extended family will rally around her, in support. So this really is not something that she would wish to withhold.

What planet are you on? Stop pussyfooting around like some right-on, politically-correct, equal-opportunity-conscious farty, and do your job. Then go out into the real world, meet some BME familes, and have your eyes opened.

ASSUMPTION 2 (SON <18)

You need to get in a professional interpreter. This is not a suitable topic for the son to translate.

By the way, maskedmarada2000 has completely misunderstood your question - what a twit!

I think should there be any issues, it would be the same issues for someone to tell his family member about the latter's diagnosis. I don't think the act of translating or language barrier is at a bigger play than the pain of breaking the news and the shock of hearing the news which are universal across just any cultures.

U will need ot be in front of the practioner when she gives her consent for you to translate for her.
Having a Chinese background should not matter.
