I feel the need to repeat certain things if a "bad thought"comes to mind...sometimes it's very difficult to stop the rituals or break out of these patterns...particularly with prayers, thinking they don't "count" if I don't say them just right or if a "bad thought" comes to mind.

I have suffered with the exact same thing for years.....I saw a therapist and I'm currently taking medication. I have made an amazing improvement.....and the best thing I could probably tell you is #1___find a medication that works for you, and #2___take steps in trying to overcome the anxiety. It's very hard.....and I know the anxiety is outrageous. Every time you feel the need to do a ritual.....just try one time.....to not do it. Trust me....nothing bad will happen.

Therapy would be a definite benefit. There are also meds that help with OCD problems. It's one malady that can rarely be managed successfully without some sort of medical intervention.
As for prayers, you don't have to say them just right - God knows the intent of your heart and He knows what you need. He is a loving and merciful God. The main thing is to be real with Him and keep talking :-)

My husband and I have it and my son also. The doctor told us that as long as it doesn't interfere with your life it shouldn't be a problem. You can also be put on Effexor which will help. The only other way is everytime you start one of your ocd patterns force yourself to stop. (very difficult) Most of the time it is from stress. Try meditation or changing your lifestyle.

are you on medication? if so this should help....if not tell your doctor....also....my mom has ocd really bad but seems to just deal with it really well....I also catch myself saying my prayers at night and repeating the same things every time....sometimes i will fall asleep saying them because i say so much and want it to be perfect....other times i just stop myself and realize that God doesnt care how many times we say it or how perfect....he hears us the first time....lol....good luck to you

Yes, go see a psychiatrist and a psychologist. You need meds/therapy if you really have OCD.
