Most of your question has already been answered above, I just thought I'd add this:
Don't confuse a dairy/milk allergy with lactose intolerance. A dairy allergy causes you to break out in hives, etc, and can in severe cases be health-threatening. Lactosse intolerance is just about an inability to digest it, leading to gastronomical problems.

Most often milk allergies produce gastrointestinal symptoms: cramping, stomach upset, diarrhea. These can also be a symptom of a lactose intolerance, or inability to digest the lactose sugar in milk. To see if you have an allergy as opposed to an intolerance, try some Lactaid milk or Lactaid tablets prior to drinking milk products - if it takes care of the symptoms it's an intolerance, not a true allergy. A real milk allergy will be evident whenever anything with milk in it is eaten, not just dairy products (like bakery items, casseroles, etc) and would also include other symptoms of allergy (headache, respiratory symptoms, etc). You can "google" milk allergy and find additional info or sites also.

Allergies can arise at any time. A few days ago my father developed a major allergy to nuts at 51, so it is possible. She could be lactose intollerant too. My best recommendation is see an ALLERGIST. They specialize in this. It will certainly be worth it.

I was told by a medical professional that one of the first signs you are allergic to milk or dairy is cold/flu like symptoms ie runny nose feeling nauseous.

I know when my brother was a baby his cheeks would get red from being allergic to milk. With me I get bad stomach cramps after drinking milk. So, pretty much everyone is different. I would say contact your dr.
