One thing is not going well, maybe it seems like nothing is going well, but you can be thankful that there's a chance things will get better. And you can always be thankful that you had a chance to know the difference between good times and bad times instead of taking things for granted.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
(Habakkuk 3:17-18)

Paul talks about giving thanks always! But how? Corrie Ten Boon, who was in a Nazi concentration camp, talked about her sister giving thanks for the lice they all had! Why, because it kept the male guards aways.

There is always something to give thanks to God. If you don't see anything in a given situation, then thank Him for grace, for forgiveness, for eternal life! These you have in any circumstance.

James 1:13-15: "When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14 But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death."

1John 2:15-17: Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.

1John 5:19: "We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one."

God never promised that this system of things would be free from hard times, as a matter of fact, Paul tells us one of the signs of the end of this system of things would be hard times for people alive at this time...
2 Timothy 3:1-5: "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away"

I've heard it is good to thank God for our trials. Just getting the words "thank you" out of my mouth is usually just enough To get me to change my attitude enough to start looking for the good things in the hard times. I start seeing ways that I have grown, or have helped others. It's really very therapeutic.

With your praise. Praise him just because he is God, not because of how you fee.

There are two times to praise God

1. When you feel like it

2. When you dont feel like it.

Psalm 43:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psalm 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

By continuing to praise him and wait on Him...

Psalm 70:4
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "Let God be exalted!"

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

--Even when things get bad- it is GOD who keeps reminding us that He is taking care of us- we dont need to worry, even though it is hard for us not to worry- but it is such a comfort to know that the Lord is in our lives isnt it?
