A pitched roof just means that the roof slants. Contrary to what the one person said, a pitched roof usually requires less maintenance because they are not as prone to collecting water and leaking. The steepness of a pitched roof normally increases the further north that you head because the increased pitch is used to help keep large amounts of snow off the roof to keep it from collapsing.

Tile roofs are basically made of ceramic tiles. Just like stone they can last for a long long time. However they are better for use in more southern climates where there is less thawing and freezing. The thawing and freezing tends to crack them. Also having trees with large limbs around that can fall on the roof can cause the tiles to break or crack. Tile roofs are normally more expensive to repair, but they do last longer and do look very beautiful. Tile roofs are very well suited for areas like New Mexico.

If it were me, I'd go with the pitched tile roof.

Usually a pitched roof is necessary to prevent snow from collapsing the roof. They are more expensive to replace than flat roofs. However, you do get the added benefit of attic storage, but attic space can also be hard on your Air Conditioning bill.

Duuuuhhhh!!!!!!!! One roof is pitched and the other is flat!! Indian and Mexican roofs are traditionally flat. Pitched roofs weren't seen until white settlers began building in the southwest!
