Check out petfinder.com. With most no-kill shelters, you'll have to go through an interview process to ensure that you are a good match with the dog. If you don't match right away, don't be overly depressed. Talk to the adoption people about what you can do to improve your chances. Take their information to heart.

I recently adopted a golden retriever mix at Petco when they had an adoption day for the local humane society. I looked for several months before I found her. Golden retrievers are the best dogs in the world. Labradors are good dogs, but they are very hyper. However, they are very smart and can be trained.
