I dont know but they do so with puppies as well. I guess they think that if they tell you there is something wrong with them you will not take them. Good luck and god bless you and your kitty.

I would say they lie because they want to get rig of unwanted litters of kittens. They say they are older because people know that kittens that are too young should not be taken from their mothers but the seller wants to get rid of them so they will tell you anything.
Also the health of a kitten is never certain, they can come down with new problems on a daily basis do an eye infection, ear mites or runny nose are quite common.
It's a sad case when a kitten is adopted out at too young an age and has medical problems etc. That is why people should have their cats spayed or neutered, so so many unwanted litters are not given away in a deceptive fashion.

Hi, sorry you had such a bad experience with your kittens and the people who were selling them.

I am a breeder of pedigree bengals, and we have to go by a strick code of ethics governing the way they are bred, raised and sold on. My own breeding programme is that I only breed my Queens twice a year, to give them time to recover between pregnancies. They are handled from birth to get them used to people and being cuddled, so they mature into loving, playful, cuddly adults. They have their first lot of inoculations at 9 weeks then again at 12 weeks and they are sold at 13 weeks of age. They are housed in a purpose built cattery that is fully enclosed, dry, heated and comfortable. They have two compartments, a sleeping part with a floor, carpet and big, deep, oversized soft pillow to sleep on, and a daytime part where their litter tray and scratching post and toys are.

Alot of people do not abide by these rules they are purly in it to make money, they are called kitten farms. They will breed the Queen as soon as she gives birth, so an average of 5-6 times a year. The kittens will be small, weak and probably deformed in some way, and the mother will be exhaused and most probably die before she is 5 years old.

I know your kitten is o.k.now, but for anyone else thinking of buying a kitten, do not get one from these people. There are too many unwanted kitten born in this world, simple because the owner couldn't be bothered to have their cat spayed or neutered.

We are not all like what you have experienced. They are plenty of good, decent breeders out there. Good luck with your kitten.

They lie because cats are considered a rodent in many areas, particularly rural areas, because they are so abundant. People will get a kitten for their children or selves and don't realize the responsibility of it. They most often let the cats run around outside, don't bother to get them fixed, and cats reproduce almost as quickly as rabbits, and before they know it they are inundated with cats and kittens of all sizes and shapes. They also don't realize the cost to feed and maintain their litter area. It is also difficult to detect some diseases in kittens. It is a shame they feel they must resort to lying, but it is fairly inexpensive to deworm a kitten or cat, if they will just show some interest in the animals they have chosen to take into their homes.

As far as the first kitten being ferral, a lot of times when the female gives birth, if they are not an indoor cat, they will find anyplace, literally anyplace, to birth, and the owners don't even know or realize she has had kittens until they are old enough to get around on their own. By that time they, the kittens, have no idea who or what this giant "thing" coming at them is, so they run or scratch and try to get away. It is important, if they wish to sell/give away the litter, to have a human interact with the kittens, as early as mom will let you. If a person is in tune or in touch with their pet they will have an area set up for her to have her kittens. All of my cats that have given birth have had to have me right there with her while she delivered, I guess it was comfort thing, particularly if it was her first litter. I guess she also wanted me to see what a good job she had done.

peple lie because they can get away with it because the buyers have not the experience to know a lie. Instead of going to a proper rescue centre where they would probably be refused a kitten because they were not suitable owners, they answer advert's in papers because the back yard breeders don't ask any questions.
You would not be eligable to adopt a kitten from rescue because you have a baby which is probably why you went to buy off unscrupulous breeders in the first place.
Have you ever heard the words 'caveat emptor'? It means buyer beware. It isn't up to the seller to inform you. It is up to you to inform yourself and check it out. Look at the kittens to see if it has clean ears, eyes and nose, part the fur to see if you can find flea dirt, check it's mouth to ensure it has teeth and handle it to ensure it isn't feral. I bet you take more time choosing a washing machine or new television than you took choosing a kitten.
Lisa how can you say you are a cat lover, then admit that you bought some 5 weeks old kittens. No CAT LOVER would dream of taking 5 week old babies from their mother. That is outright wickedness!!!

When we got one of our cats, from the RSPCA (!) she had only one and a half ears. We were told this was because she had been subject to cruelty. She was only about 6 months old, this was believable as she was small. When we got her home, she hid, my dad ended up taking the kitchen unit apart to get her out from under the cupboard. After that she spent 6 weeks under the bed, and only came out when we were all asleep to eat and use the litter tray. Eventually she became less shy and more sociable. When it came to getting her neutered, the vet opened her up to find it had already been done! We now know that the cats protection league and other such groups, blowtorch off the top of a ferral cats ear once they have neutered it. Milly should never have been domesticated, but we'd be lost without her now!

They lie because they are desperate to home kittens which they were too ignorant to stop happening in the first place. I know accidents happen but really! You have probably seen how many ads there are for homeless kittens, most of these people are not bright, hence no flea, worm or vet check. Sadly its hit and miss wether you get a healthy kitten...

That is so bizarre. You should never have been asked to take a feral cat. Usually the rescue groups capture them, nueter them, then release them. Feral cats don't like people and you should have been able to tell that BEFORE you got the kitty home.

I highly recommend adopting cats rather than buying a kitten - especially if you have a baby. The adoption centers (SPCA, etc.) can give you a history on the cat, usually, and they can tell you if the critter has been spayed or neutered, how it gets along with kids and/or other animals.

Lots of people want kittens because they are so cute. Older cats often get left behind, just like people want to adopt babies, rather than older children. An older cat might be more stable, less high-strong, and more willing to just walk away if your baby starts to annoy it - depending of course, on the cat, and it's history.

Save a cat from being euthanized before you consider buying one. Please!

I don't regret a minute of my life since I got my rescue kitty Gimpy. :)

That's a good question. I would call the person (do this for sure) and tell them exactly what the vet told you. If you do keep the kitten, whichever one you decide on, it will love you and bond with you for taking care of it so well, and helping it to be healthy. There are many - so many - people out there who don't lie, and the kittens are loveable and make super pets. Cats are by far the most wonderful pets. I have six and they all had problems when I rescued them from being dropped off by uncaring owners. Good luck.

that is absolutly disgraceful, im so sorry you had such bad luck in finding a kitten, im a cat lovver always have been and i have 3 wonderful kittens (not so much kittens anymore there 7 mnths old) i got them at age of 5 weeks, i paid a lot of money for mine (150 each) but everyone who meets them instantly falls in love they want to be wherever we are, and all they do is purrr and you can hold them like there babies. they are the most well tempered cats and i feel extremly lucky to have 3 effectionate cats. also we never had any messes on carpet or anything, maybe its worth paying the little bit extra to have that special friend forever
