How did you determine that it was arthritis? If it was a clinical diagnosis, then follow your physician's advice. However if it is only located in one place, then other things could be involved such as erosion of the joint capsule. Age is not a very critical factor in arthritis but usually occurs in older people....those in the 40s or older. You failed to mention symptoms other that the idea of pain, but is the area warm to the touch, do you have motility, do you have normal flexor and extensor movement? For relief, dry heat works well, but in Southeast Asia few people have arthritis as they have a lot of hot peppers in their diet which contains vitamin P and this apparently prevents or relieves the symptoms. A few years ago, a famous singer was the spokesman for a product called Capsacin (a take-off on the latin name of the pepper Capsicum) and it was made into an ointment. If you like spicy food, try it. But if this is strictly your best guess, I suggest a consult with your physician for a definitive diagnosis, especially if only one joint or are is involved.

If the doc did not diagnose the arthritis then see your doc to be sure this is truely arthritis and not something fixable. If it is arthritis then used an anti-inflammatory medicine such as Aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen all of which are available without a prescription. You can saok your hand in warm water and use a pain relief cream like ben gay or aspercreme on the joint.

Joint pain due to arthritis and other reasons can be reduced and cured by making small changes in your diet and lifestyle. I found the information at http://aches.in/naturalcuresarthritis.html useful.
