it depends on someone's personality but usually it takes time. Its like the real wound, when youre healthy it heals fast but when youre weak it will take forever.Sometimes we mistake the feeling as if your not going to get over but all the while just minding the scars as something that is still fresh cause it still hurt once in a while.Healing takes time but forgetting takes forever.

Here are a few tips to get over it as quickly as possible:
1. Feel the pain. Focus completely on the pain inside of you. Don't let thoughts get involved, just feel the pain, take all your awareness into it and do not resist it. Now that you become aware of the pain and don't resist it can you feel it dissolving?
2. Accept the impermanent nature of the world. Nothing lasts. Enjoy people, things, situations…………while they last. Then you can go through life and enjoy these things without any attachement, 'neediness' or clinging. You no longer derive your identity from external things. You will enjoy the crazy cosmic dance around you and inside all will be at peace.
3. Centre yourself in the present moment. The present moment is the only moment that exists. Life unfolds in the present moment. Don't get lost in a past / future orientated despair.
4. Fully accept that your partner is no longer with you. Accept that she or he is gone from your life. The fact that they have left is not the cause of your pain. The cause of your pain is your inner resitance to it. Accept everything in your life as it is what the present moment requires. Accept then act…………Resist nothing internally.
5. Breathe, eat, sleep, BE. One day you will wake up and the pain will be completely dissolved.

A broken heart or someone you love? A broken heart is nothing-that doesn't last long-but you may be in love with someone your entire life. I was with my ex fiance for three years-we split up 5 years ago-I am remarried and pregnant with my 4th. Am I over the ex? Well I know enough that it would be hard for me to go back, but yes, I still think of him and still feel a loss, sometimes wishing he would come back into my life. It is hard when you love someone so passionately and completely--you will compare all others to him unfortunately. Maybe you will be lucky and get over it quick. Depends on whether it was true love or not.

It has taken me almost a year to get over this one guy...some days are really good...other days...I wonder....what would have been...
However..I have met someone else to crush...he will get my mind off of him...However...this new guy I like...has the same name as one of the guys I have like for 2 years...I know nothing is going to happen between the two of us..so I have moved on...to the guy who works with me...
But to answer your question...It all depends on the person...if you were really attached to him...and you don't deal with break-ups or broken hearts welll...than it might take you a while...I am the same way...Everytime I happen to think about him...and think about what happened...my heart breaks all over again....
Take Care...

It takes different times for everyone and depending on the situation like having kids with them or leaving a marriage it took me 1 year having good friends will help. Just take your time and do not mess with anyone else just to re-bond.

How long does it take to get over a broken heart?
For me it was when I willed myself to forgive and let go of the pain. I forgave him, not only for him, but for myself so I could be free to open my heart and love again.

I wish I knew, I'm kind of nursing one myself right now. If you haven't had one before, the pain can be almost unbearable. But, it's like any other wound, it takes a lot of time to heal. But, someday, you will meet someone and the pain will be gone. Good luck to you, and keep your head up. It WILL get better.

A lifetime or two. It all depends on the person. Some of us are more emotional than others, some of us hide it better than others.
Keep yourself busy so you won't have too much time to think about it and pamper yourself.
