I think so many people do it these days its just seemed to be normal. Don't get me wrong, my daughter has the ocasional biscuit if shes been good, but we don't keep chocolate or crisps in the house, or if we do its very rare. I prefer to give her fruit.
Even dinners nowadays, I have to hunt in a supermarket for the fresh ingredients...its all ready meals, and things that you can just stick in the oven. i mean come on people, spaghetti bolognaise is REALLY not that hard to make, yet people still feel the need to buy the jars of sauce. Those jars have E numbers and preservatives, and all kinds junk in it, then they wonder why their kids are hyperactive and badly behaved.
It only takes me about an hour maybe two, to do a decent meal, and my daughter has always known that kind of food, and always will. In short, yes I think people who give their kids ready meals, and sweets ever day are VERY irresponsible. Its just the epitamy of todays culture, which is things that are quick and easy, to put it another way, parents these days are lazy.
Women are so busy going out and doing things, and taking their kids into pubs for lunch (Yet another irresponsible behaviour pattern) that the tradition of teaching your kids to cook properly has gone out the window. Everything I give my little girl I make from scratch, and if it costs a little more money, and takes me a little more time, then so be it, cos she deserves to be eating decent food instead of being filled with crap.

Junk food and sweets can lead to obesity---which can lead to death. In moderation they cannot. If a parent makes their child obese I believe that is abuse. I truly don't believe that parents intentionally make their children obese or even realize what they are doing until it is too late.
My parents smoked in the car with my sister and I but we never suffered from asthma or any respiratory problems. I've known many who have.
I smoke OUTSIDE. Why? Because it's a new age. I've seen the reports, I know the statistics, and I refuse to take that risk.
Yes, smoking in a car is abuse. Yes, smoking around kids is abuse. Why? Because it is plain ignorance on the parent's fault. Have these people not seen the shows about this issue? Have these people not seen the writing clearly on the back of the cigarette pack? I don't think so--the signs are everywhere today about the risks of smoking. While I am ignorant for smoking--knowing the own risks to my life--I refuse to let those effects get to my children.
It is very much abuse! Not only does smoking have greater risks--it's just plain old ignorance! I can’t even believe you think the two are comparable.
Would I report someone to CPS for smoking in their car? No. It's the person's own choice. I do, however, feel horrible for the poor child if they do get athsma or they do get harmed. Did you know second hand smoke is more dangerous then first hand? It's a risk I would NEVER take! I can only hope other people don't take it.

Yes!!!! I do. I am happy to see that the thought actually occured to someone else. people have this judgmental idea of what abuse and neglect is while they let their kids sit in front of the tv ALL the time, feed them junk, let them run the streets, and pay little or no attention to their schoolwork. Not that I am for smoking but there are other things that are harmful to a childs health as well. I believe it is very neglectful to feed children junk. A treat once in a while is one thing but I am so digusted when I see a parent giving their toddlers soda or better yet when they poor it in a baby bottle. I mean the kid has a lifetime to consume that crap. When my son was 4 months old his aunt was trying to give him a piece of a candy bar, I flipped out. She said he is not going to eat it just get a taste on his tongue. I was infuriated. Why and what is the point of giving a baby that kind of stuff? He was barely home from the hospital...geez...I did not understand and she made me out to be an evil mom. She could not understand my reasoning and I could not understand hers.

If this is on a daily basis & not just as a treat then yes, as Jamie Oliver keeps pointing out our children are going to die before our generation if this continues!
As for the other question I didn't get a chance to answer it, to all the people who said parents who smoke are irresponsible I smoke & I'm very responsible, people who take drugs in front of their kids, beat their wives, beat the children etc are the irresponsible ones. I do not smoke in the car or the house either by the way!
back to the question in hand, it annoys me, parents feed their children crap then when they get fat they moan about the fact the kids are eating them out of house & home!

Sugar`s addictive, and I think the 'e`s ' in sweets etc are too esp for kids. We`re all exposed to this problem about eating healthy and it`s a difficult one.Smoking in cars is different as the person is in control of themselves(an adult).Extreme is when a whole family are obese and regularly have take outs as their staple diet. That is abuse. The parent/parents are fat so it`s acceptable in their eyes that their kids over eat.All the money their spending on take outs though could be spent eating healthier, and perhaps if these people stopped wasting the money they wouldn`t be in so much h.p either !!!

Contant junkfood...yes I think so! Smoking completely, abuse. It's hard to compare the 2. You just can't smoke in ur car part of the time. Parents should always set the limits on the junk food!

Yes, as this can lead to a lifetime of health problems. Some parents think it is okay to bombard their children with candy, soft drinks, and other things that are really bad for them. Even at school, every holiday season is absolutely ridiculous with the amount of candy, cookies, sugary drinks, cupcakes, and the list goes on. Children have become extremely obese because we do not want to be bad parents, and tell them no. Some parents also let them watch far too much television and play video games instead of being involved with them or encourging them to go outside and play.

now and again its always nice as a treat. sadly tho junk food is cheap and easy..so alot of people who dont know how to cook or say they cant afford fresh stuff tend to buy processed rubbish and junk food for their children. i too am sometimes guilty of sticking some fish fingers and chips in the oven if im not feeling well but now and again wont do any harm. i think jamie oliver has made some parents think twice about the diet that just consists of chicken nuggets and burgers.
the people who really dont care are irresponsible but those who arent educated enough or dont realise the effects need to be told and see how bad it is for their children in the longrun

If all meals, snacks and giveaways are junk foods then yes that is quite irresponsible. In my household, my kids are in fact given junk foods, but in small quantities and I give it to them myself. My kids are 15 and 12 and still not allowed in the cookie jar, only me. But snack foods / junk foods are not nearly as irresponsible as smoking in the car with a child. I smoke, but never in the car, and when I'm home I smoke in my bedroom with the window open and have also bought a air exchanger to make sure the air for my kids is always clear.

Question is does just a little sweets or fries immediately have an adverse effect on the body like second-hand smoke does.
I wouldn't think so. A little sweets or fast food in moderation doesn't hurt anyone.
