I would suggest getting a sippy cup that wont leak and start with that. I understand it is hard to take a bottle away from your child. It might even take you a few different types of sippy cups to find one that you child will like. There is a sippy cup that has a soft rubber lid on it like the feeling of a bottle nipple those usually work pretty well. It will be hard for a few days but dont give in, your child will get used to the cup quickly as long as you dont give a bottle at all. Hope this helps. And dont worry about people saying you should have already taken the bottle away sometimes it is just hard to do. As long as you realize now that you need to get your child off the bottle then its ok.

Throw all the bottles away and get sippy cups. Then, make an appointment with a dentist, as I'm sure the child's teeth are in bad shape. Seriously, four years is waaaay too old for a bottle and it's just a bad habit at this point. Don't wean, just eliminate the bottle all together.

my daughter is 4 and she has a bottle at night with very weak juice, she occasionally has a bottle with milk, but only if she asks for one! I wouldn't make a big deal out of it at night as sometimes kids need a drink and a bottle is more comforting!
I had all this make them give up the bottle rubbish from my mum with my first child, if i knew what i know now i wouldnt have listened! She got me so stressed out over my 3 yr old having a bottle (she even bought him a really expensive toy) so i couldn't go back on it when id weaned him! Don't listen to what everyone else has done with their child, some people breast feed till there kids are 4 and they don't get comments like is there a medical reason! You know your child, however if i were you i would keep bottles for night time and get him/her a toddler cup, for the day! Perhaps a nice cup with a pop up straw and their favorite character on the front!
Please don't make a big song and dance about it, all that yu will succeed in doing is stressing yourself and your child out! Just take the child out to choose their very own special cup, and use that for the day, and let them have their bottle at night till they are more comfortable with the idea!
I have 4 kids , and I wish when I had my first son 14 years ago that i knew what I know now, and didn't let other people influence my upbringing of my kids! Lets face it would you really turn around to soemone with a 4 yr old that had a teddy for comfort and say " oh you better start weaning him off that teddy".
Good luck!

Weaning is done at months old not years. Throw all bottles away, at four years they should be drinking out of a cup/glass as we do. Bottles will affect teeth and speech. Do it today and like already stated prepare for a hard day or two. Make a big effort tell them what a big person they are and babies .have bottles

Is there a medical reason why your 4 year old it still using a bottle if not then its going to be harder on you and you should have weaned your child at 1. Now your child could possibly have dental problems. I'm not trying to be mean but what were you guys thinking. Wont your child be starting kindergarten soon. You just take that bottle away and go to a soft tip sippy cup or because of your child being so old it may be possible that he or she already has coordination in his hands to be able to just switch to a regular cup. Have you tried talking to your child's doctor?

Four years is way to old for a bottle. You should even be past the sippy cup stage. The best way to get rid of the bottle, move on to the sippy cup( make sure you take away the pacifier too.) The hardest time will probably be at night, try a stuffed animal or some relaxing music. It could really be bad for your childs teeth to continue to use the bottle. Good luck.

What in the world is a 4 y/o still doing on a bottle?!?!?!? Take it away and throw it away!!! Buy the no-spill sippy cups. Tell them that they are a big boy/girl and if they want something to drink they have to drink out of a big boy/girl cup. There's no excuse for a 4y/o to still be drinking from a bottle!!!!

Take it away and throw them all out so there's no temptation on the 4 year olds part. And what the hell is a 4 year old still doing on a feeding bottle? You should have been done between 12 months to 18 months old.

Your child is 4 years old and still on the bottle? I would just put them in the trash. It may take a couple of days but he will get over it. Just don't give in and give him a bottle.

youre gonna have to be firm i`m afraid and throw away the bottles i had to , my son was still havin a bottle at night until he was six only beacause he got scared at night and couldnt sleep without it he suffered terrible dreams. then one night he wanted a friend to stay over from school so i told him that every one would pick on him if they new so he let me throw them away.
try and give your child ateddy bear or other comfotor instead it will cause a few sleepless nights but it will benefit you and the child in the long run.
if your still having trouble then talk to your gp or health visitor they might be able to help. good luck anyway from a sympathizing mum.
