No fear. We are made in the image of God, but that image is handicapped when we purposely rebel against God & die spiritually like the first Adam did. To see the Kingdom of God we must be reborn spiritually. And that happens through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Word of God said, " Let us make man in our image.". (Body, soul & Spirit.)
It is also written to cast down all imaginations (theories, ideas, etc...) that exalt itself against the knowledge of God.
Since evolution exalts itself against the knowledge of God (God is a monkey spirit), we cast it down, & replace it with the truth found in God's Word.

Pride has nothing to do with it. What does is:
1) The Bible: which says God created man; Christians believe the Bible as the Word of God
2) The Evidence: there is much evidence for evolution within a "kind", but there is zero evidence, zero, nada, zip, of evolution from one kind of animal to another. For example, there are many species of dogs, which all probably came from very few if not one "kind" of dog. But there is no evidence that a dog can evolve into another kind of animal.
3) Observation: People are different from animals. Very different. Language, culture, and ability all seperate man from beast. People write, plan, analyze, go to the moon, build computers, make movies, and on and on. I don't know of any animal who has ever writen a novel or expressed the beauty of a sunset in a poem.
If God said we evolved or if there was substantial evidence that we evolved, Christians would believe we evolved. But He didn't and there isn't. So we don't.
I think the real issue is that creationists make a critical mistake my beginning with the assumption that there is no God. That there is no being capable of "creating". Therefore, the answer MUST be something else. And therefore the best answer is that we came from something else.
But where did that something else come from? And where did that come from? And before that? And before that? Where did matter come from in the first place? What existed a millisecond before the big bang?
I think the real pride comes from those who refuse to seek God.

Its because christianity is the old way of thinking... and those who back the system are very conservative about it. They don't like change.... most humans don't at the heart of things. The creationists are attempting to fight that change in beliefs that has resulted from the realisation of the true age of the earth. Whether they think there is any cause to believe the Old Testament's recounting of things or not, they believe it has worked for a long time and should continue to do so.
... Thats the long and the short of it.
Yes. They are afraid of change. They are afraid of reality. They are insecure and cannot get by without their big, imaginary friend.

I wouldn't put it quite so brutally, but I think that's a large part of the opposition. The idea that Man was created out of dust doesn't bother creationists because that dust was fashioned into the form of the Creator. The other, and perhaps greater, reason for so much opposition is a desire to cling to their beloved, comforting creation myth, which they've been taught to believe since birth. Evolution leaves a lot of questions--not unusual for science,--whereas the Bible keeps it nice and simple: 6 days of toil, all done.

It does have to do with some kind of pride, I'm sure. But I think it has alot to do with the fact that they look for all the answers in the world in one book. When I had to write papers in college, I had to have dozens of resources to make sure the information was well-rounded and accurate. How can one have well-rounded and accurate information with only one source.

I think you're close to right here.
Human arrogance is most certainly a central part of creationism. In fact, very few creationists seem to be able to get over the fact that a nonintentional process (that is, one that is not like us) can produce complex things. They manage to deny that so effectively that they give examples of it and convince themselves that they're _supporting_ rather than undermining their beliefs.

Sheesh, why do non believers think that evolution has any facts? It is a theory and some speculated evidence gives light to the theory, but it is NOT A FACT, that we share a common ancestor, it is NOT a fact.
Secondly, I am not going to buy something just because it is promoted. I "buy" something when it stands up to reason. Evolution is NOT a fact, and there are holes in the THEORY (so many IMO) that I dismiss it because of that, not because I am scared to find out I am nothing more than an evolved animal.

I've encountered some people who fit the profile... yeah they seem to make a big deal about "we're not monkey men"...
I do'nt know if all of them feel this as the only reason, but it is one of the many reasons they'll say they have for holding on to creationism.

I think the thought of an all powerful being creating the universe puts a dent in your pride. Without a God you're free to be your own God. This philosophy is called humanism. It's selfish where God is selfless.
The prideful are the ones that claim to be their own god. Not the ones that humble themselves before Him.

Evolution is a THEORY, not a fact. And if you ever care to read the other questions like this one, you'd see that there are plenty of Christians who believe in Evolution. However, you just like your little hate-filled blinders on, going about your little way and thinking the worst of Christians.
