The question is completely misguided. Fiber is a signal carrier and thus has advantages and disadvantages compared to other carriers, such as copper wire, radio, infrared, etc. As to communications, they are either analog or digital, there is no third option.

Optical fiber communication in itself is a digital communication because it uses light . Fiber optics (optical fibers) are long, thin strands of very pure glass about the diameter of a human hair. They are arranged in bundles called optical cables and used to transmit light signals over long distances.

Optical fibers come in two types:
Single-mode fibers and multi mode fibers

There are a few reasons why fiber optic cables are preferred to copper wire cables. Most importantly, they carry much more information and they carry it in a digital form, which is the normal computer format. This means you can transfer information at a much greater rate than with normal wire cables. Fiber optic cables are also less prone to interference like electromagnetic noise than cooper wire cables, and are usually less expensive to maintain.

But, even though they are less expensive to maintain, one of the main disadvantages of fiber optics is the cost. Fiber optical cables cost a lot more to install than their copper counterparts. And, while many love how thin and light fiber optic cables are, they are more delicate than copper wire, making them easy to break and difficult to manipulate.

optical fibre consists of a bunch of wires which are smaller than our hair...in this the data are carried by optical waves through the waves...the data will be secure and even a optical fibre cable consists of millions of fibres the data will not be mixed up and the data transfer will be fast..it is nowadays used in video transfer ,data transfer and telephone communication.......

i think its enough..for further details go to the website www.howstuffworks.com and type optical fibre communication......if it is enough spend a minute to choose mine as best answer as iam in level 1
