Hyperactive. Usually describes a busy child. However, it is now considered common, and is a developmental and behavioral disorder. Some of the characteristics include: poor concentration, easily distracted, hyperactivity (can't sit still), and impulsiveness inappropriate for the child's age. Those with ADHD get easily distracted by sights and sounds in their environment. They cannot concentrate on an involved task, especially one requiring long sessions. They are also restless and impulsive with a tendency to daydream. ADHD people can be slow to complete tasks. Used to be considered a sign of mental deficiency, and limited only to males, but is now recognized as common to both genders, and not necessarily linked to lower mental functions, just an inability to complete tasks.

Its about your BRAIN. Not your mind. Its a medical condition like high blood pressure or anything else. Thats like calling people with anemia lazy. People with ADHD have a lazy cop directing traffic in their brains. Thats all. I hate having ADHD. But I also love having ADHD. I hate it when it comes to getting things done in anything resembling an effortless manner, like my wife or my friends. I love having it when I don't take my meds and I can let my mind go where it wants. I can think so much faster and creatively without the meds, but I can't stop it. I can't focus on any one thing. I do my creative thinking off the meds then use the meds to help me actually finish my projects. Its not about being mature or less intelligent. Its about symptoms that resemble those traits. You can't treat a 'normal' person for any of those things. Have your friends read some of the great ADHD books out there. Maybe they'll understand it better. Good luck.
