Seems like it's a huge industry....but what is the attraction?
Doesn't the average good looking woman have the opportunity to go on dates whenever she wants? Can't she have her own personal romance story?

do you know how many wrong men you may have to go out with to find the right man? Lots! So better live your fantasy through these romance novels. By the way, no man comes close to the men described in these books. This is by no means a criticism to men...there are lots of great men around. Just that those books are far from reality.

Most romance novels are written by women. And women (obviously) have more insight into the female psyche and what it really wants and craves. So the male characters that they create in these stories are able to give their female counterparts "what every woman wants and dreams of" - so to speak. And since for many women in the world these men don't exist outside of fantasy, they read the romance novels to experience what they otherwise wouldn't be able to. That's how I see it, anyway.

And in my experience, it seems that romance novels cater to the older crowd. I've known of grandmothers that read them, but I personally have not.

I dont read many romance novels, I'm more into suspense and murder stories.

All I can think of, it's the connection between lovers, the manners & class that the characters have. Overall, it's the fantasy that maybe someday a knight in shining armour will come to our rescue. Maybe teach some of these dumbells we have been dating a few things.
