Well, I've read articles that suggest that cars will drive themselves in the future. In the future, roads will be lined with computer chips that will send messages to the car. The cars will drive themselves to a pre-determinded place by entering an address on a computer screen or by saying it outloud. Recieving messages from the road chips, car will know when the stop, turn, or take alternate routes in traffic. Just imagine, no steering wheel or gas pedal. It's all automatic.

The car is the Toyota Prius, because electric motors are far more suitable for traction than infernal combustion, eg max torque at 0 rpm, simpler gearboxes etc.

in <20 years the cost of fossil fuel (peak oil) will mean the end of cheap personal transport, automatic or otherwise; unless (and it seems unlikely) we can manage the global resources to provide a "soft landing".

The technologies are there, but as a society we seem incapable of understanding the need.

So in 40 years cars will automatically run out of fuel and sit there rusting in the flooded cities.

Was that true, I thought it was just bs... Well if it is true, you aught to be able to have a car drive you about in 40 years, just by giving it an address.
