It's not like they can eat the candy or even know what they are doing. The parents are going to be the ones eating the candy. Sometimes I see an adult holding a baby that looks about 6 months old and they are holding out a little ziplock bag for the baby and I think how stupid! Anybody younger than 3 years old does not need to be out trick or treating.

I think the parents enjoy getting out, love showing off their baby - especially in a costume and they just enjoy their outing with the baby. I thought about it, too, and watched the couples or mom's with their little ones. They seemed to have such fun with their kids. And it's not like I'm handing out a big wad of cash - just a couple pieces of candy. No big whoop.

I have a 3 year old daughter and a 17 month old daughter. We took my seventeen month old out trick or treating last night because we didn't have a sitter and it wasn't fair to make the three year old stay home. We did take a bag for her, but didn't hold it out. If people offered her candy and it was something she could chew we'd put it in her bag, but that's it. Last night, while trick or treating, there were families that had newborn babies out dressed up but not asking for candy. What concerns me there, moreso than who's eating the candy, is the temperature outdoors and the risk of small babies getting sick.

If they had older kids, then I would know that they were just trying to include the baby by dressing him/her up, but there is no need for a bag of candy for the baby.

I didn't take my kids out until my daughter was old enough to trick-or-treat herself, and I was going to allow her to eat the candy she got. She was 2, my son was 4 on their first trick-or-treating. And even then, we only went out long enough to get a handful of candy for each. They just aren't old enough for that much candy, and they get tired at the end of a day quickly. So we were only out for about 30 minutes total. Then they got to hand out the candy at our house to the older kids, and they had more fun doing that than knocking on doors. In the years before we took them out, they got to dress up and pass out the candy. Which is a great way to celebrate the holdiay without taking them out.

Numerous possibilities -
Mom & Dad showing off the baby & getting a little snack in the process; maybe they don't get any trick-or-treaters at their house so they go out with the baby in order to participate; maybe they're new in the neighborhood & lonely & hoping to meet other people with babies along the way.... main thing is, they're not hurting anybody, why do you need to be judgmental & look down on them? Now maybe if they brought a PILLOWCASE to hold the candy... So OK, maybe it's not your thing, then don't do it yourself. But give them a break and find something REAL to be concerned about!!

It's probably because those particular mothers are just really into the holiday and they think it is fun and cute to bring their baby with them and the baby's older siblings. I bet many of them had their baby in a costume as well, right? That was probably a huge amount of fun for them as well. Some people do go goofy over holidays, but that's their prerogative. I wish I had gotten at least one trick or treater last night. I bought all this candy and no one came. Now, I am gonna have to eat it all myself and get fat.

I can understand if they are also out with children who are a little older - but just taking a baby out is pathetic because you're right - the kid isn't going to remember what they are doing, it can't eat any of the candy, and most times it's cold on trick or treat night so shouldn't the baby be inside where it's warm?

yeah well that is just your opinion. I took my lil one year boy trick or treating and he had a great time. And no it isnt all about the candy, it is about having fun with your child. Yesterday I had a great time just watching my sons face while he looked at all the lil kids in their costumes and going from house to house. So before you start bashing on people think of all the reasons of why a parent would like to spend that time with their child. Even if they cant remember that day, the parent will and remember how much fun they had together. So get the stick out your butt and start enjoying your children.

Lighten up!
Part of having a child is enjoying/passing along holidays with them.
Mom and dad get to get out and play with their children, and the baby looks really cute. It costs you a couple of pieces of candy.
How is that not a good idea?
Relax! Quit trying to control what other people do, and control what you do.
You CAN refuse to give candy to babies, or you can relax and enjoy the cute little baby. You don't have to participate at all or you can give candy to anyone who is standing on you porch.
Chill. Happy Halloween!

Why do people take babies trick-or-treating?

cause its holloween :)

one holiday EVERY kid loves. period. im 19 and still love holloween, though mostly i rid my younger iblings candy bags because im passing out the candy its still a time kids look forward to, even if they wont remember it, get them in it early, and they will have a blast seeing all the people outside

and getting sick from the low tempurature is BECAUSE YOU STAY INSIDE ...... because its cold you turn on the heat, and the HEAT incubates the virus/disease :)

and about parents getting CANDY for the kid .... i know my dad took me trick or treating when i was really young, (but i learned to walk at half the regular age, and learned to talk at half ...... but took twice the time to be potty trained) i walked i know that, and know what he did with my candy ? PASSED IT OUT! he ran out of candy and he took me trick or treating down a couple blocks to give out a few more handfulls

and i did that once when i was like 8 or 9 i think, we ran out of candy, i went trick or treating with a plastic grocery bag and passes all my candy out

I think that you should dress your baby up for Halloween and take him/her to see your FAMILY! Not random strangers for candy. My sisters always did that and it was fun to see them in their little outfits. If the baby has a bigger sibling, then I think I it would be okay for them all to go trick or treating together.
