Reincarnation

2006-11-01 01:32:16 · answer #1 · answered by Sunny-T 3 · 1 0

Buddhism, like all beliefs, began on spiritual truths, and got
messed up by mans wisdom.
All these things men come up with, 12 steps, 5 pillars, 8-fold
path. We cannot draw a line on an infinite Creator.
The first Universal Law is the Divine Paradox. That this world
is just an illusion compared to the spirit world. But it is
still REAL. Don't get caught up in all kinds of mindsets.
Survival requires the ability to adapt. Change with the
changing circumstances. There is no one way to handle
everybody and every situation in life.
Like all the GO WITHIN, GO WITHIN, Yes, the spirit within
has the answers. But they forget there is a whole Universe
OUT THERE!
Today they got this Live in the NOW! A guy ridiculed people
for running around in a hurry. Well, we live in a material world
NOW. And time is a reality in our world, and we have to get to
work on time, fighting the traffic.
GET MY DRIFT?
Find balance in your thinking.
As for your question, the Tibetan Book of the Dead has all these
rituals for guiding a soul to heaven after it dies. Perhaps that
was necessary before Christ reopened the doors to spirit
with His Scarifice.
But like I said. We live in the HERE AND NOW!

buddhism believes in rebirth- It is the mind-stream, not the soul, which goes through rebirth and cycles in existence. The mind-stream is ever-changing though, like the Ganges River.

When we die, the mind, with all the tendencies, preferences, abilities and characteristics that have been developed and conditioned in this life, re-establishes itself in a fertilised egg. Thus the individual grows, is re-born and develops a personality conditioned both by the mental characteristics that have been carried over. And by the new environment, the personality will change and be modified by conscious effort ;and conditioning factors like education, parental influence and society and once again at death, re-establishing itself in a new fertilised egg. This process of dying and being reborn will continue until the conditions that cause it, craving and ignorance, cease. When they do, instead of being reborn, the mind attains a state called Nirvana and this is the ultimate goal of Buddhism and the purpose of life.

If you haven't attained enlightenment.... then you reincarnate as something else... and continue your journey on the otherwise endless wheel of life.

This only comes to an end when you achieve enlightenment... and its not as if there is any rush toward that end. The Boddhisatvas forgo their own enlightenment at the last step in order to remain behind and help the rest of us achieve that aim and transcend above the wheel of life.

I'm not buddhist any more, but I was for a while when I was younger. I still maintain similar goals in some respects though... To transcend beyond the entrapment of repeating life and ultimately self-destroy....

When you die, some of these creepy spirits take you down to the underworld where you will be judged by some King Yama. Depending on how much you sinned in your previous life they will give you a better/worse life for you to reincarnate into.

You don't die, you abandon the earthly body, like casting-off a set of clothes. Then you decide what kind of life to have next, ie what existence will provide the neccessary set of learning experiences that will advance you further towards 'nirvana'. Nirvana means outgrowing the endless cycle of re-births, and achieving a state of pure spirituality.

Reincarnation if I'm not mistaken. Re-doing life over and over until you reach Nirvana.

But I might be confusing that with Hinduism.

You return to the wheel of life, either reincarnation or (hopefully) unity with Budda
