My step-mom and Dad are very strict and emotionally abusive and i want to move in with another family member (but not my real mom). I'm not sure where to look up information on this and i've already asked a question on here and didn't get any answers i was looking for. People told me to just leave and i can't JUST LEAVE. that's not how it works. i don't want to end up in court custody. i just want to move in with my aunt or grandma and my parents won't let me. what is petitioning the court?

Go to the courthouse in your city and tell them you want to get a judge to grant you "emancipated minor" status. They'll tell you how to go about the paperwork and filing. Good luck!

Sounds like you are in a bind there. I am sorry about the emotional abuse. That can be worse then physical abuse but know this. You do not have to accept it. And do not believe any of it when you are being hurt OK?

First try to get your grandma or aunt to talk to them about you staying with them.

As far as moving in with your aunt or grandma you may be able to but if your parents do not want to do this social services would have to be involved and they would have to first establish the emotional abuse and whether your grandma and aunt are acceptable. If they do not think so then you could end up elsewhere and it may not be any better then where you are at though it may be good too. Try asking a school counselor if they know what actions you should take. If you do this though and they find that they think you are being abused they will report this to social services.
Wish I had a better answer for you and my prayers are with you that you find a happy solution for you problem.
Also, if you can prove you are being abused and if you have a job you may be able to claim emancipation which is where the court says you are showing responsibility and would do better on your own. In that case you can move in with whomever you want to.

You will need a court order to do this. Call legal aid. Try the legal dept of a University. They will often take on cases like yours for free. Make sure you have a written invitation from the other adults, so you look legit. Try child protective services as a last resort.

you cant legally move out of your house without your parents permission at 17, as soon as u go 18 u can do whatever you want but right now your parents r still responsible for u so you cant just leave without their permission. if you wanna move in with your aunt or grandma then talk to them abou it and maybe someone they could adopt u but that would need like ur parents permission. i would say just wait another year its your PARENTS you cant just leave them. good luck!

Yeah life sucks.. If they treat you like crap their not friends try find other people that are also quite and don't like their friends. People who are picked on always get the really interesting jobs and the ones who are popular usually get the boring ones or end up in I.T so when your older you can laugh at them as they work for you. I wouldn't move out, perhaps speak to your family ask them to stop cursing politely say how it makes you feel or that the shouting scares you, I'm sure they'll understand.

Just move out. You will not be dragged to a court because you are being abused and you will be moving to your relatives place.
