There are four holy books that the Muslims believe are the texts of Allah. They are as follows:

1. Torah (Old Testament) given to Musa a.s. (Moses)

2. Zaboor (Pslams) given to Dawood a.s. (David)

3. Ingeel (New Testament, or the Bible) given to Isa a.s. (Jesus)

4. Quran (the final Book of Allah) revealed to Muhammed (s.a.w.)

However, note that we believe in the original texts, in which they were revealed from God, of the above books. The Torah, Zaboor, and the Ingeel have been changed over time and therefore new versions are not accepted. The original books, unfortunately do not exist anymore. The Quran is one book that is forbidden to change...even a letter. Therefore it is still in its original form after 1400 years and thus the book we adhere to.

Also, the Quran is not the only text we read from, though it should be read daily for spiritual reasons. There are also the Hadith (or traditions of the Prophet Muhammed pbuh) that we must follow. This compilation compliments the Quran and helps us better understand the Holy book and bring it into easy practice. The Quran cannot be followed to its literal sense as it is full of references to past historical events and the Hadith help us understand the situations mentioned in the Quran better. That's why there are so many problems in this world today. Too many people are just picking up the Quran and claim that what is written must be interpreted word for word, which it is not. Just like Shakespere. We cannot just pick it up and fully understand it word for word. There are a lot of symbols and references to other events in there. In the same way, the Quran cannot be interpreted in its literal written form. Imagine a world if we interpreted Shakespeare's works in only its literal sense. So much would be lost in the process. The power in his plays would be completely drained. The Quran is similar to that.

to the Muslims there is only one holy book.there are other books[hadith]that are accepted by most orthodox but not considered holy.some Shia,non-practicing muslims,[what the media calls moderate],and other sects do not generally accept them, for they tend to not be flattering to them.some of the hadith authentic were written down during the prophets life, the authors of the sayings usually having been the prophets companions.however they didnt become book form for many years after because of the dispersal of the companions to other lands.

The Holy Qur'an was sent by Allah through Angel Gabriel in the 6th Century AC. The other Books that Muslims follow are the Traditions of the Holy Prophet which was made in many occasions in His lifetime. Otherwise called "Hadith".
