I have naturally dark hair and eyes with olive skin and id like to go blonde but every time i go to the hair dressers they end up talking me out of it because of the damage and i end up coming home with highlights! A month ago i dyed my hair with a permanent brown so now im not even sure if i can have my hair bleached without it going orange! Is anyone in a similar situation but actually gone for it? i really want a change! I have this illusion that im gonna look like jessica simpson or britney but ill probably end up like pat evans!!!!

OK. 1.) DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!! The reason stylists try to talk you out of blond is because it is something that takes a lot of knowledge and experience to do it correctly. Which is why you do not go with a new (inexperienced) stylist. 2.) It can be done but as it says in a couple of the previous answers, blond does not necessarily look good on olive skin. Neither Jessica Simpson nor Britney Spears are olive-skinned. Jessica Alba is closer, but if you notice, her hair color is a darker, cooler blond- the MOST difficult color to achieve. 3.) Semi-permanent color will not help you! Permanent color will not help you! High-lift color will not help you! If you want a softer, cooler blond even the new high-lift colors designed for level 5 and darker will leave you too brassy. Double-processing is the only way you will get what you want. I.E. bleach and tone. 4.) The underlying pigment in your natural hair color is the dominant factor in the end result. However, depending on what product was used to color your hair before, how your hair looks and feels after going blond can vary greatly. Please tell your stylist EXACTLY what was used on your hair before. 5.) Expect to be in the salon every two weeks spending a minimum of two hours and at least $100.00. You can get what you want, but you get what you pay for! Good luck!

I got the same response EVERY time I went in to get Blonde color too. It sucks. I finally had to go to a Sally's Beauty Supply store and buy 2 bleach kits and do it myself. I had a friend help me by making sure all my hair was covered. You have to leave it on longer than most people. When you think it is the color you want, then only rinse a small strand in water to see what the real color looks like. Most times it is still red or brassy. Leave it on as long as you can. Make sure you get bleach at a beauty supply store not a discount store. (Discount store kinds are not as strong.) Also put in 2 or 3 packets of a de-brasser or brass out packets. Mix into the bleach before putting on. This will take out alot of the red/orange brassy look. Good luck and I hope this helped you a little.

I did this and it was such a faff i ended up just going back dark. If you have dark eyebrows it looks really daft with blond hair so on top of that you will have to get your eyebrows bleached. Plus the roots are imossible to keep up with! After about 2 weeks of having it done i had a drak brown line on my parting where my natural colour was coming through! If you want to do it then go for it but think hard as it is expensive and takes alot of time to keep up with. I would deffinatly receommend going to a salon as if you try it at home it will probably go green! A salon should be able to do it for you. If they try and talk you out of it just be persitant and say you need it doing. If teyw ont then go to a differnt salon.

It will damage your hair (as all colours and blech do) but if you look after it with the right products (i would recommend buying some from the salon that does it) then it should look great.

Good Luck with it!

Why not go to a wig store and try on their blond wigs, look at yourself see if you like it. Sometimes with olive skin you will look ill (yellowish) so you will come to the conclusion that blond will not suit you at all. On the other hand, if you like what you see, I suggest going to a real good hair dresser place somewhere you know they are good professionals. There is the danger of damage to your hair and also that you will remain orange. Look at the Japanese girls, they all look orange after dying.

I did it once I have very dark hair with a bit of red in it and I have pale skin and blue eyes.. it did work out so well ... but then a few year later I went to the hairdressers and they made it a very light brown with highlights and it looked really good.. try asking them for that ..... if it doesn't work you can always dye it back..

If you really want to do it than go for it! There are semi-permanent dyes you can try-that way if you don't like it, it will wash out in like 20 shampoos or so. I am always dyeing my hair and trying different shades ~ one time I wanted to try some Burgundy stripes in it and they got way too thick and the guys and my work teased me that something died in my hair! LMAO ! I just pretended that I did it that way on purpose and loved it! hehe - I bought a dye remover maybe a week or two later and just started over! I am all for it - try it and enjoy!

I've been getting my hair done for over 10 yrs, and they use to tell me the same thing! I have dark brown hair and everytime i try to lighten they just put in highlights, what i learned is you have to tell them you don't care if it gets damaged, make them do it (it is ur hair) and when you go home make sure you use a good deep conditioner.

If the hair dressers try to talk you out of it, there must be a reason ! Listen to the pros ! They lost money by not doing your hair. Women with blonde hair and brown eye-brows look foolish.

Change hairdressers. Newly trained hairdressers know the current techniques. The older entrenched one just want to do what they learned 10 , 15 ,20 yrs ago. They probably dont know what to use to do what you want.
The best way is to look around, ask. If there are new salons, walk in and ask. Its as easy as that.
