he has flat feet and cant keep normal childs slippers on his feet, it is maddeningly difficult to find them !!

Try to add a Velcro strip around the back of traditional slippers. You can iron them on.
Alternatively check out some on-line shops for Velcro as well as bootie slippers.

walmart - target - kmart are good place to start - but you can also check out payless, and the mall - they just came out w/ the cute animal ones for christmas at walmart you can take him w/ you and let him choose a pair that he likes :)
