(Posted this before but I think most of the answers were about the US Army so I changed the question)

I am 19 now and expecting to be getting a 12 month sentence in a few weeks. Just want to know when I'm all finished with that if I would still be able to join the army or would having been in prison mean I have no chance.

Basically come back in 2016, if you chance your arm at another office they will find out as all applications are linked on a database these days. No it isn't really up to the 'guy' in the office, those are guidelines that are laid down to him by HQ Recruiting Group, he is merely following him. However you are allowed to enlist with no more than two unspent convictions, provided you have no other convictions and this was the sole thing you were charged for then you should have met the eligibility criteria.

Yes you can.
Whe I joined and went for a weekend test they asked everyone who had a record. They had to produce some document. It was no problem whatsoever.

If you are awaiting a court case or sentence they may even get rid of it for you, especially in the current cirumstances of overstretch.

I would like to add that now is not a good time to enter the military, unless you like action and lots of it.

I was in the army for 3 years and we had one soldier who had to join othrewise he would have gone to prison, The army was his way out. All depends what your sentence is for.
Try www.britisharmed forces.org

This site will tell you all you need to know about the army.

Depends on what you have done and if you have a earlier record or if it is just a one time thing. In the us, anything more serious than a speeding ticket and you will be ruled out. I would rekommend that you check it out with a recruiter or the brittish army home page.

a side note: There is a person that have answered here that need to check his setting on the computor or the webpage. His or hers answers arent easy to read! Theyre good but tough to read. Change it please! Johan

I afraid you are unable to join the British forces with a conviction or any other criminal offence for at least five years after the fact.

but if you I'm wrong you can always ask at your local recruitment office and they will inform you of their rules and regulations,

I think that the only people in the British army are ex-cons. Murderers go to the head of the line.

Don't know for sure but it may be a problem, a mate hit difficulties with security clearance thanks to an open charge that has since been dropped
