I saw two people using them on the train this morning and i just thought that its quite disgusting when you think about it. Its like using the same tissue over and over and keeping in your pocket to fester. Obviously they look nice in mens top pockets but i think thats all they are good for. Any views on this??

The same can be said about the tissues the women carry around for weeks.

Kinder to the environment wash and use instead of mountains of tissues that need trees torn down to produce them. That's the FOE recommendation

some people sweat a lot especially those in the tropical climate. so handkerchiefs can be used to wipe out those sweat. you may not be able to carry a bundle or packet of tissue so you go with your hanky.

You may think what you want but! did you ever sneeze and not have something to wipe your hand off or your nose with stuff hanging out of it..especially in public? Now tell me what u think of them! do you carry a box of tissue around with you..most people don't...have you ever been to a funeral and someone was craying and they needed to wipe their tears..or nose...they serve more than one purpose..that is why gentlemen usually carry them..my opinion...

I have one friend who still uses them. I think it's utterly repulsive, but haven't said anything to him about it. They do look cool, as you said, sticking out of the top of a suit pocket. But come on!!! How cool would it look if it were covered in snot?

To minimize the spread of germs and phlegm which every human being carries in their nose. I'm sure you wouldn't want someone to sneeze in their hand and then rub it off on the seat next to you.

It's better for the environment (no paper tissue wastage) and softer than even the soft paper tissues.

I agree, ive never saw the point of it. I use to see allot of "wanna b" posh people using them, but how posh are they really. I mean they are putting their own snot back in their pockets.

I don't use them to blow my nose. However I have hankerchiefs that I think are just pretty to look at and if I'm going to cry I wipe my eyes on them. Maybe the couple you saw just likes being old fashioned. I dunno, I think blowing your nose in a hankerchief is disgusting myself.

Maybe they were once a stigma thing where you were of higher status to have them. Now I think they are just full of germs.
