Self defense.
Take cover and run or react if pushed to wall.
Call police if time permits otherwise do not wait and give more reaction time to the criminal. React to save your life, in the language he understands.

Go before a judge and attempt to obtain a Protective Order. This should be an easy task if the person has a criminal record, more specifically one that includes violence. In order for one of these to be obtained, the person must reside in the jurisdicition of the court and must be able to be served the order once it has been issued. The police cannot act on any threat that they believe the person that threatened you cannot carry out. If the person in 50 miles away, and threatened you over the phone--they won't do anything. Most of all, be persistent with the police and everyone else involved. Let your friends and neighbors know that this person has threatened you..and if they see this person, to call the police asap. Good luck.

You can ask for a restraining order. I assume the threats were made to you face to face? There is nothing the police can do but to take a report. They cannot arrest the other person. You will need the report to try to get the restraining order.

NOW....is the other person should call you on the phone, mail a letter or send you an email threatening you.....THEN it's a crime. It's a felony to threaten someone by phone, mail or email.

If you can get them that way....then the police can make an arrest.

I completely agree with the very first answer. Anyone who wants to kill you will ignore a restraining order. If they are coming after you and you call the police, but have no protection on you, the police will arrive after you are injured or dead. If you decide to get a gun, look up the local laws regarding self-defense. Sometimes, the killer has to be actually in your home before you can defend yourself. Good luck and be smart!!

Threats can only be taken care of with a peace bond. And all that does is call attention that something may happen. Until the act takes place, or is attempted, technically, a crime has not occurred.

Its sick, but hey, its a he said she said deal and the cops don't want to be in the middle, unless a crime has been at least attempted.

Get this person under a peace bond and a Restraining order. Go see the DA or the judge and see what your state has to offer.

i think you need a mix of all these answers... be prepared but be ready.. what i mean by that is get a restraining order... why. If he does come after you, they have a legal reason to arrest him. Get a gun, or mace, or a taser, or something to protect yourself. Yes the police cannot be with you 24/7 and it's always good to be prepared. Give the police a reason to arrest him.

First of all make sure you have filled out a report at the police department or sheriff's office if they have not filed one. If they have not filed one then you be persistent that they do. Second of all get a restraining order. If the person comes in contact with you again they will find themselves in jail for it.

If you have a police report you can take it to your local court (ie) family ,magistrate and have a warrant issued for that person arrest along with a protection from abuse order. Of course this depends on the state you reside in.

The only thing you can do is to be on guard, and be ready for an iminent attack. The police cannot be with you 24/7 because of a threat against your life. You are on your own.

Now a days, the police can't protect you from ANYTHING... and by that, I mean anything.... People in witness protection get shot when in the the damn custody of the police... Witnesses are considered threats to the gangs and whoever is trying to kill them!
