nothing is really good or evil until man determines the answer for themselves

Yes, that question can be confusing.

The actual hatred of money is a little crazy, because every one of us needs some money to even exist.

But the hatred of a lot of money can be the root of good.

The people who hate a lot of money, I believe, simply realize that having a lot of money can cause evil and problems. So many people who love money often love their money more than their family and God as well. Money (lack of or too much) often causes divorce, murder, hate, jealousy, etc. etc.

So yes, I see where you are getting at.

I think the dislike or hatred of alot of money by some people are often the "good, or better" people in life. They understand that money can be the root of all evil, and in turn, the hatred of money can be the root of "all good."

Makes sense?

If you take money to be the rote of ALL evil then yes the hatred of money is a source of ALL good. How ever hatred is also caused by jalousie, not for material items as this would be constituted under "money" but for things that cant be brought e.g. Love. In witch case no it is not, Love is also a souse of good.

My Greek New Testament seems to say the love of money is A root (singular) of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from faith and stabbed themselves all over. The context is important! The apostle Paul was warning Timothy how best to 'fight the fine fight of faith and get a firm hold on everlasting life.' Loving money is but one potential evil.

To all the Christians answering this (including myself) I would quote these Proverbs in the Old Testament: "Give me neither poverty nor riches...He who gives to the poor will lack nothing... Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone..." That's Wisdom.

Money does not actually exist. It's only an idea we all go along with, to avoid bartering with goods. Pound, or dollar, notes are pieces of paper. 50 pence pieces are amalgums of metal etc. Cheques are scribbles on paper. Money is neutral, neither good nor bad. Love of this idea of having lots of (non-existent) money is a form of madness. Love of God might be said to be an idea about a non-existent entity, but it's not madness when you look at all the charitable things Christians, and people of other faith, do for the poor and the voiceless, using their money to help them. What we do about this idea of money proves whether we have faith in God or faith in Mammon. For sure, we cannot have faith in both!

Both sides of this saying are BS. Whether its the love of money or the hatred of it, people are the ones that do the acts that they are trying to blame money for.

money is a tool and nothing more. you got a leaky pipe you seal it, you buy the caulking to seal the pipe and then you seal it. when you think its gonna bring you happyness and you start buying everything you want you get to be a rotten person and you toataly miss out on the finer points in live that make life worth living. so i dont belive its a hatred of money, moreso a hatred of not having it. invest, work, invent and patent something you get more from it than by just keeping on hating it. you benifit your world and help those around you.

Andy, money is not evil...it is what people do with it that makes it evil. If you are given 1 million dollars and you use it to build some housing for the poor , feed some starving children, pay for foreign ministries, help anyone and everyone you can, then it is a good thing. If yousquander it all on things you desire to have and to make your status higher then it becomes evil.

No it is not. that doesn't make sense to me. The love of money is the root of all evil means that when you love money more than you should you will go to whatever lengths to get it. We need money.
I have never heard of anyone that hates money.

it doesnt make sense when it is the correct way round.

{Love of money is the root of all evil. Rape is nothing to do with money, therefore rape is not evil}

{edit} I'm an atheist, so, unlike a lot of Christians, I have actually read the bible. The quote is the "LOVE OF money is the root of all evil".....for goodness sake people, no one said that money is in itself evil,. especially not in your jesus stories!!

Money is the root of all evil, and that's true, because once you get money you really start doing things you shouldn't, selfishness being the first, and then it's all down hill from there.
