Hi, I recently moved to Newark, NJ by way of LA and Paris for my fiance's job with the airlines. Although we like being in the Ironbound in Newark because of its proximity to NYC and the EWR airport, we would love to see if there is more to NJ than Newark. Please recommend some beautiful towns we can drive to and what should we see there? We love little towns with cute main streets and such. Thanks

The rest of NJ considers Newark to be the armpit of the state!!

The best place in New Jersey is definitely Cape May. It is about a 2 hour drive south for you. You should plan to spend the weekend at one of the many Victorian-era B&B's. The entire town has been declared a 'historical landmark,' the only place in the US to have this distinction.

There are GREAT restaurants and plenty of places to explore. I've even seen dolphins swimming off the beaches there.

Enjoy!!

About 1 hour south from you along the shore you can go to Red Bank (lots of little shops and restaurants - most things are off the main street) and Ocean Grove (same as Red Bank but less affluent - more "beach cottage" kind of stores). Spring Lake is also quaint but I don't know too much about it (only been there once or twice).

Take Rt 21 south to 1&9 through Elizabeth. After you get through the industrial part, the scenery begins to change. When you get to Rt 35 south, take it. Follow it south, you will pass through many small quaint towns. Eventually, you will wind up at the famous Jersey Shore, passing through Red Bank, Long Branch, Asbury Park etc...enjoy.

Or you could take Rt. 24 West through Cranford, Westfield etc... nice ride.

Lots to see outside of Newark.

Fill up the tank and go!

Have fun!!

the full Northern area of the state is commuting distance from NYC. i might propose possibly you initiate by potential of vacationing New Jersey Transit's internet site and watching their prepare routes and get the names of cities alongside them. Then possibly you're able to do internet searches to be sure approximately specific cities.regularly the greater out you pass from the city the decrease the fee of properties. yet decrease is relative. properties in superb cities in NJ are merely straight forward high priced.
