First get a good lab workup to rule out organic reasons for depression.

First stop family doctor who can coordinate treatment and follow up. A diagnosis from a psychiatrist. Therapy with a psychologist with phd. Meds. Finding the combo for you can be easy or take longer. Committment to continue until you find the right med for you. Selp help books written by those with a phd. Lighten your load for a while, allow yourself the time to get well, get notes for work or school from fam doctor. So go get started. There is good life after depression and such relief. Fam doctor can help if there is anxiety and sleep probs as well related to your depression. Enlist the help of friend, spouse, parent to walk you through closely your recovery. Be willing to keep going til you find the med right for you. Ask your fam doc to see you once per week until feeling better. Never be afraid to go to ER if having a really bad moment. Trust in the fact that after recovery has taken place you will not only have survived but you will thrive and be a much stronger person. Help someone else.

You mean like in some future world when we've figured out everything? or now?
Now there isn't anything like that. There are only a variety of medications that work pretty well for most people. The drugs have side effects some as mild as dry mouth, some as serious as loss of all sexual desire.
There is ECT which does help some people the drugs don't touch but has some side effects like memory loss and other stuff.
Nothing can make it go away for good. Relapse occur.
And some people remain, at this stage of medical science, disabled by their disease. No matter what they do.
In the future I either see some sort of brain implant that clears up all the neurotransmitter junk in your head and lets your brain function normally, or some breakthrough pill that makes Prozac look like a Tictac.

First, if you are on medication, stay on it. Too many times, when depressed people start feeling better, they think they are "cured" and stop taking their meds. Don't fall into this trap. You may have to take your meds for life.
Second, what makes you happy? Whatever it may be, try to do it as much as you can. Look forward to it. Recognize your happiness while you are doing it. Look forward to doing it again.
Third, is energy to do things a problem? Break down big tasks into smaller tasks, then just do the smaller tasks in order. For example, when I lack for motivation to go to the gym, I break it down into smaller tasks: packing my gym bag, walking to the car, driving to the gym, walking in, working out. If I think of each of these in isolation, I'm now accomplishing a number of small things, while also accomplishing the one big thing, the workout.
Fourth, your environment might need an upgrade if it's contributing to the way you feel. Look around and see if there is any way you can brighten things up. The physical environment can definitely affect your mental state. Also a part of your environment is the people in it. Is there anyone who brings you down when you are together? Drop them! Find some positive friends; their optimism will wear off on you.
Finally, make every effort to be optimistic and positive in your own life. Smile! Others will smile back and you'll feel so much better. Good luck!

Depression can be caused by spiritual, emotional or physical imbalance in the system.

Physical - could be cured by taking some herbs or medicines which will raise the level of our "feel good" hormones.

Emotional - needs a thorough examination either by the person experiencing depression or with the help of psychologist to try to discover the cause(s) of depression. Most of the time, people needs help to see the better side of their situation with the help of others. Support of friends and family also helps the person deal with the depression.

Spiritual - in many cases, a weak sense of spirituality and lack of "faith" is the strongest cause of depression - without those sufferring from it knowing it. To be fully satisfied and fulfilled in life, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspect of our lives must all be satisfied, not necessarily to the full extent but to a reasonable level.

In today's world, many are materially and intellectually fulfilled but are depressed, why? Because they are leaving some very important parts of their lives empty - God!

If you will make a survey - most of the people who are sufferring deppression are those withouth strong "spiritual" connection.

It could be a Vitamin D deficiency. I heard that was directly linked with depression and other diseases such as cancer. Our doctor told my husband and I to begin taking 1000 mgs per day. Not gettng enough sun will cause depression, and that is a lack of Vitamin D.
