Make a paste of baking soda and lemon juice, cover the inside of the bowl pretty thick. Let it harden overnight, then fill it with soapy water and pop it in the microwave for 10 minutes or until it boils. DO NOT MOVE IT until it cools down a bit, you don't want to get burned. Clean it as usual, it usually does the trick for me.

I have tried real lemons, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, bleach and borax nothing worked to get downy softener smell out of Tupperware plastic bowls. I have finally found the real answer to get the smell completely gone. This is what I did filled a crock pot with 4 to 5 cups of water and added 5 tablespoons of beef bouillon. I tasted it so it taste like beef base soup. Next I added a rinsed off 5 pound corn beef brisket and added it's little pack of seasoning. I peeled 4 to 6 potatoes and added them whole. I cut 3 yellow onions in quarters and added them with their brown skin off. I put a piece of foil on top then put lid on to insulate it well while cooking. On high for 8 hours or longer for even softer to chew meat. Turned off and ate but left crock pot sit over night on stove completely covered with the foil and lid. In morning got all food out and put in fridge. Now the soup created and cooled in crock pot I poured it all in 1 big Tupperware Bowl and put Tupperware lid on bowl and would let air out of it twice a day and I would shake it in bowl each day to keep mixing with lid on for 10 days. Last I had another Tupperware bowl to get odor out so I poured the beef broth for first bowl to this bowl n did exact same thing for 10 days. Lastly, I hand washed the bowl and the smell is gone.

Look for something called a pumice stick. They're usually sold near the toilet cleaning supplies at the store. Chances are you have hard water deposits that are holding the stains. You will have to scrub the hard water minerals off. The pumice stick is harder than the hard water minerals but softer than the porcelain of the toilet bowl. Get on your gloves, unwrap the pumice and start scrubbing with it. The pumice stick will start to wear off as you use it, that's normal. Keep working it until you've scrubbed off all the stains. Flush the toilet a few times to rinse away all the pumice residue and you should have a sparkling clean toilet bowl.

Add a touch of bleach to the soap that you are washing the bowls with (make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands). The bleach will eliminate the smell.
Next time, line the bowl with saran wrap so it is an easy clean up and will not smell of garlic.

All the answers seem to be pretty good, I'm going to tell you what not to do, do not use bleach, it will smell like dirty arm pits, and the scent you were trying to remove.

plastic absorbs odors, and I think it is permanent, just try to use the same bowl every time

Soak them in cold water overnight. Whatever you do don't add soap. It works for me.
