He is 14 weeks old. We are using the pads, of which he only uses at night. He does not poop on them period.
Crate training was a nightmare, he would poop and pee in there anyway, and by time I got to him at 5am, he was covered in it. So now he is locked into my kitchen. I have to be ultra careful because I live on a Marine Corps base, and my carpet was new.
What has worked for any of you?
HELP!

I have a male mini-dachshund. He's 8 months old this week. House-training has NOT been easy. But the crate/kennell worked for us. He is at the point now where he won't pee in the house, but occasionally if we don't keep a close eye on him, he does poop in the house.

The book "Dachshunds for Dummies" was a good one for us. There are a lot of useful tips in there.

How big is your crate? With ours we bought one that would be adjustable as he got older and we kept it tiny at first. Just barely enough room for him to stand up and turn around. It cannot be any bigger because they will (as yours did) do it in there anyway if there's more room.

Then we would take him out immediately after taking him out of the crate. And refuse to pet him or play with him until he did his business. Then it was back out about 15-20 min after he would eat and again about every 30 -45 minutes (just in case).

Each time he would pee or poop outside we would praise him BIG TIME.. treats and everything.

But if he did it in the house it was back in the crate and just ignore him - they HATE being ignored.

Now - when he does have an oops in the house he immediately slinks back off to his crate. He KNOWS he was bad.... which is a good sign.

I highly recommend the book. It helped us a lot at first.

I have a mini Dausch and I know exactly where you are coming from!! My weenie is a girl and she is 7 months old and she is just starting to be completely housebroken!! It has been a rough 7 months!! I tried everything and nothing worked, so i bought her a kennel and everytime she pooped or peed in the wrong place other than outside or on her puppy pad i put her nose in it and punished her in the kennel and gave my other dogs a treat!! It took a few weeks to start worken, but now she knows that if she makes a mistake she goes and the kennel and gets no treat!! Try it!! Good luck!!

i have a female and she is still aweful at 2 yrs old. she is house broken, as ling as you dont pet her lol. any attention at all and she pees everywhere... as far as house breaking her. i would give her food 2 times a day and let her eat and when she ate what she wanted, i put it up. give him water with his food and one time in between while your breaking him. after he eats or has his drink break wait about 10 mintues and then take him out until he goes. this may take a lil bit because they are small and get cold and want to go back in so you have to teach him that he cant go back in until he goes potty... once you get him use to this routine, he will catch on... good luck and take care!!!

i dunt kno if this wud help but give it a schedule in feeding it everiday so you can get an idea when it has to go, but i think your going to have to put up wid this until shesz lik 7 months or more because when they are little, der bladders r smalll and they dont know how to control it, so aniwaisz b4 you take it to bed, try not to give it water and make sure he uses da bathroom b4 he goes to bed. ooo nd hav u tried makin him use da bathroom on newspaper?? if u dint, i gues u shud use dat too aiiesz. hope ur situation gets beta.
