Pretty much where this comes from is that doctors have found that sometimes, when they remove a breast cancer tumor from a patient, there are often high levels of aluminum in the tumor. Aluminum is one of the main ingredients in almost every type of deodorant.
So, basically at this point, no one wants to come right out and admit whether or not the aluminum buildup is contributing to the tumor; they've just admitted that there are sometimes high levels of aluminum present in the tumor. Virtually ANYTHING you put on the outside of your body is going to be absorbed through the skin, so it's logical to assume that a tumor, being inside your body, might be comprised of some of the same things.
It seems as if the jury is still out, for the most part, on whether the aluminum is actually contributing to the cancer... but there are a couple aluminum-free alternatives out there if it concerns you.
I use Tom's of Maine, which comes in both roll on and spray, and is aluminum-free.

I am so glad you asked this question,I found the answers interesting. I lost a breast to cancer yr. ago. I was told never to use deodorant again because of the aluminum. It could cause abrasion & infection. Truth is hidden in there somewhere. I too believe there is more to be said. I believe it does or contributes to it. In women 50 + cancer is rampant. Fact. Families where there is no known history. Mothers, Grandmothers or aunts. This would take us back to time when such products weren't availabe. 50 +. yrs ago they were.Hum! Make you wonder doesn't it. Too late for me. I have indeed survived an am well now. But could younger girls be spared if we know the truth. That bothers me. That would be a victory for me. I have granddaughters. To spare any girl would be a blessing. Yrs ago they used natural avaailable products like corn starch or baking soda. That is what I was told to use. Surprise, Surprise. They work very well & very cheap.

The email that had been in circulation since 1999 is a hoax...and the theory is thought to be a myth. It isn't backed by scientific research (or cancer societies). -but that could be due to lack of research rather than lack of evidence!
The theory is as follows: "anit-perspirants" (and not all deodorants) maybe linked to breast (and lymphatic) cancers. Perspiring is one way in which a body gets rid of toxins...and anti-perspirant deodorants prevent that from occurring. The toxins then accumulate and can become harmful, possibly causing cancers.
If you're still worried about the risks then (for peace of mind at least) use deodorants that aren't anti-perspirants.

I've heard that deodorant is linked to breast cancer. It is banned in Japan, and it is hard to find in China also. You can use baking soda instead and it works just as well. I believe that women who have had cancer use that.

I believe it's banned in France as well, although this is second hand information.
