I am proud of you for being a vegan, i am not one at all but my sisters brother in law is one and she and her husband are rude about him being one. He is a great person. If i ever see a cow go through any pain so someone could get the meat from it i would probally turn into one too. Don t let your family get to you. my sister judges me and is rude to me all the time because i dont believe the religious things she believes in her way. Good for you for being a vegan. I heard that if we all became that way there would be more food in the world for everyone to feed all the homeless.

As someone else asked, who buys the food? Vegan fare is hard to find and can be VERY expensive. It turns meal planning into a nightmare. If your Mom has to do the grocery shopping, can you imagine just how long it would take her to read every label to see if you can eat it or not? I know about this difficulty in another sense, as my husband is super-sensitive to garlic and onions, which are found in just about EVERYTHING. I spend a whole lot of time reading labels, and if we want something like pizza, it must be made from scratch with plain tomato paste and spices carefully chosen. It is a difficult road to walk, but it keeps him from having ulcer problems like before.

Now, I don't know your situation, nor do I know whether your mother yells at you a lot when you don't eat what she fixes. But you can be sure she is required to know what you CAN eat if she has to buy it. If you're buying it, then disregard this part. Hope that helps! As long as you're getting proper nutrition, there should be no problem with your being vegan; just be aware of all the difficulties it can cause for anyone who plans meals for your family.

Have you ever really looked at most vegetarians? They look pasty and gray. Our creator wanted us to have what we need to totally nourish our bodies while we are on our short stay here. That includes certain animals. The only reason I can see that your friends or family acts weird about it is because you are the one that makes it a problem by your acting weird about it and pushing your beliefs on everyone else. Oh no! Here she comes! Put your burgers away because she will preach your ears off! Know what I mean? You can have your beliefs and you can do what you need for yourself to make sure those needs are met. Don't make everyone else you know try to think the way you do or else, you won't have any friends and you will end up a yahoo answers groupie with nothing better to do on a Saturday night while all your friends are having burgers and fries at the local burger joint and having fun. Don't push your vegetable-ism on your friends. they will think you are one.

well, perhaps you are harming yourself by malnourishment. also, it is a strange line to draw... we are carnivores and we are only here and technologically advanced because of our adaptation to predation. It's a great decision, ethically, but make sure you do it right. Find enough protein, and just to be safe, eat some fish or chicken every now and then. Chickens are dumb as a box of rocks, and really don't know any better. Fish are dumber. If you mom takes the time to make a big dinner that is tasty enough that everyone will eat it, it sucks that you won't eat it because of some epiphany you had about just how perfectly ethical and harmless to the world you happen to be.

It shows that they care for you. Of course you have a right to choose your own diet, but parents do care for the well being of their children and they show their concern by what you say "getting weird". If you think you are getting the proteins, vitamins and minerals a human being needs to get from animal products, you should explain this to your family and friends. If you are not getting enough nourishment, well, get it. Malnutrition can be fatal for the body.

If you stand for anything that typically 'goes against the grain', you will always get reactions like this. Start explaining to them in a nice way exactly why you choose to eat like you do (but don't preach to them or it will turn them off). Once you've nicely stated your case, just shrug it off.

Its your choice. The best way around it is to do the dishes afterwards. If you're gonna dis your Mum's cooking every day thats the least you can do to calm the waters.

it's your world and no one but you has to live in it.

ask them straight up... ' do i disappoint you? these are my choices. you have raised me to be a strong independent person. why try to change me now? ' (to your parents)
your true friends will accept you with all of your quirks.
