I read somewhere (sorry, it was so long ago that I can't cite my source anymore) that cats turn around before getting into a comfortable position as a hang-over from before domestication. This is an instinctive reaction to make a nest - basically, for lying down in long grass, and going to sleep, they will have to flatten it first, by turning round in circles. The fact that it's a circle shape will also be the most economic fit for their body, and ensure that they stay as warm as possible in as small a space as possible (which is a defensive mechanism). There you go... another theory for you!

It's a cat thing. Just finding the optimum comfy spot.

because she is getting into her "spot" the same way you might do when you lay or sit down. how you fix the sheets just right fluff the pillow or move the couch cushion. cats do the same thing so do dogs. they are just moving their bodies to be comfortable rather than what they are sitting on.

Your cat is doing what is called 'Pxssy footing around' ...making herself comfortable before settling down. Hence the phase 'Pxssy Footing around' which can applied to someone who is doing neither one thing or the other.
