Hi looking for some advice, my 10 year old girl was stung 2 days ago by a wasp, she was stung twice. I could not see any sting at all, so ice was applied and anthisan was applied, the swelling seemed to go down but now has increased in size and she is complaining of it been sore and burning. I also gave her benadryl to help with the swelling, but after 2 days is this still normal to have swelling so bad?

Thank you for all your comments, managed to see the doctor after 5 last night, turns out leg badly infected, so daughter was put on a course of antibiotics and pain killers. Just shows you what wasps can do even at this time of the year, be careful out there !!!!

Take her to the doctors as soon as you can. It's possible that she's allergic. When I was little I had the same sort of reaction to multiple wasp stings, and the doctors just passed it off as a mild irritation from the stinger and gave me some antibiotics. Well, the next time I got stung by wasps I had a severe allergic reaction and stopped breathing. I actually have no memory of that day.... apparently memory loss is normal after trauma like that.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm not saying this is going to happen to you daughter. I mean lets face it, I'm a 17 year old high school student and I am most certainly not a doctor, but I would get her checked out just incase. Better safe than sorry.

Occassionally an infection can set in after a sting which we often call "cellulitis". The swelling after a sting should start to diminish after a day or so ,not get worse. If the area is swollen, tender and warm to touch ,this is NOT normal in my experience. Take her back to the Dr. She may need some antibiotics. Ice it in the meantime.Poor kid. I once had a whole hive go up my pant-legs and the problem with wasps is that they can sting multiple times not just once like a bee. Good luck.

That sounds normal. Wasp stings as well fire ant stings will do that.. They are not that bad until a couple days go by... The body is working up immunity to the poison.. Ant stings ( a wasp is an ant ) stings hurt. If your child can breath and isn't complaining of shortness of breath within a few hours after the bite than I would say she is definetly not allegic. Here it is a couple days later - she'll be fine

Before the doctors try some soap. Lather a little on your fingers and rub gently on the sting. It should have been done right away but it might still neutralize the sting. This works on wasp stings for future reference.

Quiet normal. Unless your daughter is experiencing a huge reddened area and there is discharge around the site just keep doing what you are doing. Don't let her scratch it the dirt under the nail can cause infection. If you don't see an improvement in the next day or so take her to her doc.

Wasp sting= vinegar.
Bee sting= Bicarbonate of soda.

Try the vinegar, but take her to doctor just incase... I'd say swelling after 2days is not normal.

My Mother used to give me lots of Arnica (a Homoeopathic remedy) for the shock. This will help your daughter's immune system to react more effectively without having to cope with the chemical imbalance caused by shock. Shock can take a long time to fully come out of the body.

I thought you cold only get stung by a wasp once? But if your daughter is still sore you could always take her into the chemists to let them have a look or go see your nurse or gp.
