I bicycle commute. It's not to long...only about 6 miles...and I love each and every minute of it. Even in bad weather I enjoy being out in the elements. It's a great way to start and wrap up my days. It helps keep me in really good shape and I save a ton of money in car maintaince, insurance, gas.
I also am proud to say that I'm a very small part of the solution...I no longer demand gas and therefor am very slightly reducing our country's dependancy on foreign oil as well as not spewing unneccesary pollutants into the atmosphere. Yeah, my impact in miniscual, but I do hope that I can perhaps help to motivate others to adopt the healthy and positive lifestyle that I enjoy so much.

No for most part of the countries. The population is not dense enough to support an efficient public transit system. For big metropolitan areas like NYC, DC, Chicago etc., then yes, it could happen. However, public transportation and private car ownership can co-exist. While the public transportation may not be from point to point, if you can funnel enough driver to ditch their cars at a park and ride station and take a subway or express bus into the city, that could work and could solve your problem with the long trip. Sorry we have no way to control moronic people, you just have to deal with them unfortunately, unless they do something illegal.

I use my car. We live in the woods, basically, and we have no public transport anywhere near us or even in the township where I work. Now, for getting around town once I am there, I use a bike or scooter unless the weather turn inclimate.

Four mile car drive to safe location where I can leave the car and catch a bus for the final eight miles.
Why? Because, overall, it is the cheapest. Parking charges in town are more expensive than the return bus fare.

I have to use my car, as I live in Spain and I have to take the children to school which is over 20 kilometers away and there is hardly any buses here, so I have no choice but to use the car, if I could use different form I would.

Car, I would like to take train but it doesn't run all night long, I work at night and there isn't anyone I work with who lives near me or works my hours. I live 67 miles north of work so walking or biking is out.

I drive, but it's only 2 miles away, so I used to walk until I switched to graveyard shift. Now it's not safe to walk to work, so I drive.
