restaurant and taking it from there. We are both 26 btw! (just so you know it;s not a teenage thing!)
I like this girl and want to make a good impression, so should I be casual like jeans, t-shirt or a proper shirt/ aftershave yes/ no? any other pointers, i feel pretty clueless, haven't done anything like this in over 6 years (due to being stuck in a loveless relationship!)

I have read the responses so far, and while all have merit and are right, for the right reasons; I think you should ask yourself a question? How do you want her to appear? Like she has gone to some trouble to impress you, or like it is just a casual thing with no need to worry.

In situations where I don't know what to do I always ask myself how I would like to be treated. If it were me in this situation, and I would want the other party to go to some trouble, because (to fill you in) she will probably go through her entire wardrobe at least once, trying to figure out what to wear to impress you. I am not saying you should go that far, but you get my point.

The hardest part, is trying to impress without looking like you had to work at it. If you are worried about what you are wearing, then pick up a bunch of flowers on the way, and I am sure all will be forgiven.

Good luck

Not often on Friday nights, but some Saturday nights and it so happens that tonight is the night. We have been invited to a party, it starts at 8.00pm until about 2.00 am so I don't expect we will be home much before 3.00 am. I have just spent 30 mins on the treadmill and about to do some sit-ups and press ups to make sure I'm fit enough. I will be 74 in a couple of months but I have no intention of leaving the party of life quietly and sedately. I will be a long time dead and when the fat lady sings, she sings forever.

Ok....depends on the atmosphere of the restaurant. If it is a nicer, classier place....I vote for nice pants and a button up.

If it is a pretty casual place....I'd probably go with some nice jeans, and still with a button up. I love a guy in jeans, a white button up and some nice leather shoes.

btw....she's probably wondering the same thing. Why not just ask her how she'd prefer to dress for the evening? Dressy or casual.

Hope this helps...and good luck!

The look i always love is jeans t-shirt and blazer, Its not casual (barley got out of bed to come meet you!) and its not over the top either. Sometimes a bloke in a shirt looks like hes trying to hard! Whatever you do DONT wear a labelled t-shirt! The last date i had, the guy was good looking but hes t-shirt said "what would you like for breakfast?" It was funny but a total turn off!!! : )

Just dress casual since you are going to a cafe, a shirt will be too much. Some aftershave should be nice. Good luck.

You should wear clothing appropriate for the standard of restaurant you're going to. If you want to impress her - you should dress up a little but also not overdo it. If you know what you're doing after dinner - dress accordingly since if you're going out to a club etc you'll need to fulfil any dress code requirements to get in.

It depends on what type of cafe you are taking her too. Is it casual or classy. Dress slacks, shirt, tie (and yes cologne) are positives. Or even dark jeans dressed up will work. No sneakers or t-shirts though. Also, please have clean fingernails and fresh breath.

no t-shirt, wear a collared shirt. jeans are okay if they're clean and neat, khaki's are nice too. same with shoes, as long as they are clean and neat. definitely shave and light on the cologne/aftershave.
