You need to go to the site of the maker of the adapter and see what it says.

Are you sure it is a PC device (not for a Mac or Solaris or something)?

This simply means that the software vendor hasn't been thru the Microsoft certification process. It doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Some vendors choose NOT to undergo Microsoft certification for various reasons. When this happens you usually get a prompt that gives you the option to "Install Anyway" - in your case, though, it sounds as tho your system administrators have specifically blocked installation of non Microsoft certified software.

Is this a work PC or a Home PC? If a Home PC make sure you are logged in as the Administrator or as a User with Admin rights. If its a work PC, you'll have to speak to the IT dept.

If you are on a computer that has multiple logons you may not be able to add any hardware/software unless you have the correct access rights; ie, Administrator. Check this first. Even if a driver is not-Micorosoft certified you should be able to install - USB devices especially have a high "non-certified" rate.

Are you sure that it is ran on Windows platform? You may gave a device that is not Windows authorized or even you got ripped off.
