Kerry's comments were stupid and misinformed. The majority of solders in Iraq are college educated men and women who joined the reserves, thinking that it meant a weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. I would be willing to guess there are far more college graduates serving in Iraq than those with only high school diplomas, the first time in the history of military action.

What is worse, Democrats, led by Congressman Moore (KS) are going on the attack against solders who were paying child support based on the civilian income at the time they were called up. Their income dropped, but with the exception of Missouri and Illinois, they have to keep up their payments, even if it exceeds their military income.

These men will be returning to face prosecution for back support. I wrote the Congressman two years ago about it and he said nothing could be done, but now, he is introducing legislation to further erode their rights, just because they obeyed their orders to serve.

By the way, if you know a returning solder who lives in Missouri and Illinois, tell them they can file for a retroactive reduction in their child support. Child Support Enforcement are forbidden to tell them.

Please note that I'm not saying that I oppose Kerry or the Democrat Party. In fact, I ordered a bumper sticker similar to the one in this comic strip.

Kerry never stood behind his OWN men, betrayed THEM. Now, he makes statements condemning TODAY'S VOLUNTEER military. Surprised? Not me. Angry? Absolutely. He is a complete disgrace. I can't believe that with his superior attitude that ANYONE can defend anything that he says. he so obviously looks at the rest of us with such disdain, ESPECIALLY the military. If he was as smart as he THINKS he is he would be doing some MAJOR apologizing instead of trying to say that he was talking about BUSH and NOT the military. Anyone who heard his comments can see what a lie that was. He doesn't even have the courage to stand behind his own statements. I guess he thinks the rest of us are just too DUMB, he can explain it away and everyone will just accept it. THAT is John Kerry.
PROUD of our military and PROUD to be an American.

I agree with your comment. The only thing I want to point out is it is not only the individuals in the Reserves that have degrees. I came into the Active Duty USAF a month after I turned 18 and am only a few credit shy of having a degree in Criminal Justice Computer Science so it is across the board. Matter of fact to show how well men and women are standing up to fight what they believe in. The AF is going through a force shaping and trying to lower its forces. For this we have thousands of AD enlisted Airman that came in with a degree. Yes they wanted to become officers but the the AF wasnt going to let them in because we did not need there degree. They still joined and came in as at the most an E3. I think this shows the commitment of the men and women across the board becuase I can only imagine the pay cut they are getting with coming in at such a low pay when they can easily use there degree to get themselves a high paying job on the outside.

As far as the pay and the military; I can attest to that. A couple of years ago I was actually getting WIC. Matter of fact I prob still qualify for it. I just choose not to use it because I am getting by fine and I know there are others out there just could prob use it more.

I served 20 years with the US Army, 9/10ths of that overseas. There are so many financial injustices that I don't know where to start. One of my favorites is when congress votes on their pay raise and get a large one, and then give the soldiers 2% or less. The vast majority of enlisted members in the US military financially qualify for the WIC program and if they were not recieving a federal paycheck many could draw welfare.

I never liked John Kerry and firmly believe that he schemed, to be President one day, since high school. His duty in Vietnam was a travisty as attested to by more then just a handful of veterans who served with him. The majority of time that he is talking he is lying or reversing his position.

I don't know if your facts are correct. But if they are then I'm with you 100%. Our troops need all the support they can get. Another respondent to your question believes that serving our country in time of need is sufficient in-and-of itself (like the Vets of WWII). I kind of agree there too. But I would go further in helping our troops in anyway possible since they're putting their lives on the line for me, while I safely sit here in front of my computer.

To "Nukiem": Maybe Kerry isn't as smart as he thinks: By implication the troops have to be as "stupid" as Bush since we now have an all volunteer military. Kerry didn't realize this?
Now, who's stupid???

Your letter to the editor is stupid and misinformed.

Kerry's comments had nothing to do with American troops past or present. He was referring to the Bush administration's failed policies in Iraq.

Please stop smearing our highly decorated combat veterans like John Kerry to further your partisan political views.

Everyone who fought alongside Mr. Kerry can attest to his heroism and courage under fire. The Swift Boat liars were contemporaries of his, but had no personal knowledge of his combat experiences.

They should actually lower their payments to accomodate what they are making now. They are over there protecting this country and the goofs that believe that they should pay the same. What ever happened to just saying thank you to our service members.
