wires work as a path to send the electricity to another place, imagine cars are the electricity and roads are the wires. cars need the road to travel from one place to the other, same as electricity needs wires to get from a place to the other.

It is possible to send electricity without wire...have you ever seen a lightning??? electricity needs a "conductor"...oxygen, metal and water is among them...

not only wire (metals)...
