Other addicts... drug addicts, alcoholics, gamblers etc are all treated like the scum of the earth & people are quick to either judge & condemn or to try & save that person from their dangerous lifestyle.
If someone is clearly addicted to food in a way that is making them unhealthy, we are less likely to bring the subject up or stage an intervention. Why are we insensitive to other addictions yet we treat the food addicted with such extreme sensitivity that we end up saying nothing? Is it not just as harmful to the persons health etc in the end?

Before the issue of drug addicts etc, robbing old ladies comes up, that's ignorance. Addicts come in all shapes & forms.
The food addict does harm their family & those around them in many ways, especially when they become incapacitated.

If you do not treat me with kid gloves, then I will SIT on you and suffocate you !!!

SERIOUSLY: No one with any addiction should be treated 'like the scum of the earth'. Any intervention should only be done with someone with sufficient knowledge NOT to create more problems than what they solve.

I agree with you that this SHOULD include all types of addictions. I will even go wider than what you say and include any apparent obsessive behaviour.

First of all, the other addictions you mentioned are not related to a substance that is necessary to live. For instance, you don't have to have drugs to get by everyday. However, food is something you have to have to be healthy and live a healthy life. Anyone who is obese already knows it and it doesn't have to be pointed out. You can clearly "see" that addiction. And I would not agree that fat people are treated with "kid gloves". They are constantly humiliated. It's not your place to point out their faults any more than you would want someone to point out yours. And yes, it is extremely harmful; but, still not your personal duty to go up to a fat person and start preaching about diets and such.

I don't think we are insensitive to other addictions; we just can't see them. It is clearly not acceptable to belittle someone because of their weight.

One thing that seems to have gotten out of control in America is portion size, and fast foods in schools. Until that is addressed, we are going to have a huge problem with obesity because kids grow up on junk! Now THAT is something you can talk about, or an issue that you can do something about. I have a big problem with some states having laws where you can't smoke in the car with kids, but you can take them to McDonalds or give them lunch money for chips/sodas at school. Thanks for letting me vent on this question. Godloveya.

How do you know it is a food addiction rather than a medical condition that is causing the obesity? That would be why we do not treat the overweight as if their problem is their 'fault' or their 'addiction'.
As for treating obese people with kid gloves and extreme sensitivity, why are the obese the ONLY group that it is safe to make a joke about? The only ism left is America, that is acceptable is sizeism.

No idea but it annoys me like nothing else.

At least gamblers are giving back to the economy. Food addicts drain it when they end up going to the doctor for every illness caused by their unhealthy lifestyle. (ie. Diabetes, shortness of breath, heart disease, coronary diseases, sleep apnoea, etc... )

If your BMI is putting you in the 'obese' category you should have to carry a government issued card that means you have to pay extra tax on everything you eat. The tax would go toward health services providing the obese with whatever medical assistance there is that deals with their addiction to food.

Obese people should feel bad. Absolutely.
