You can load a linux operating system and firewall software on one of the machines to create a hardware firewall which will more efficiently protect your home machine than a software firewall will do.

You can turn one of the other machines into a file server and put files eg music etc to share with other computers over a network in your home.

since you have already windows on your 3 computers, the best and easy way to install other things besdie windows is to get a copy of "linux for windows" but be careful when you install it as you need to study more about linux and may have to get an extra hard drive and extra memory before you install it.

it took me a few weeks to understand linux more or less on the basics and it is tough for most beginners.

focus on 1 computer 1st and backup all the data into a cd or another hard drive on another computer if possible - the best.

linux is not easy to experiment and 1 wrong move, your computer will crash and it need someone who knows about linux to recover the hard drive if it crashes.

ps: read the requirements of the "linux for windows" cd box 1st before getting it and read and study on linux too.

cheers and good luck! you need lots of luck!

You can try Linux... since it is open source it is free (or almost free). The only "problem" is that the applications are different: you cannot install Microsoft Office on a Linux machine, but there are different softwares for that same purpose. One good place to see the different programs you can get for linux is Tucows http://www.tucows.com/Linux.If you want more info on how to install try http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/webmaster/article.php/3346331

Good luck!

yes.. it's not called LEXUS.. it's called LINUX, and there are several flavours (called distros). Ubuntu (ubuntu.org) is free, downloadable, and can run right off of a bootable cd.
