If you pay attention when you are greeted,
you should know their name!
Or look at the name tag when he/she 1st approaches the table, and then you can
call the server by their name!
What a novel idea. It's really NOT rocket science.
On the rare occasion that a customer is rude when trying to get my attention, I will make them wait even longer for what they need.
I have the power in this situation, and if you are rude I will make you suffer.
If I get stiffed because of it, I don't really care, because I make a good living at what I do and the rare stiff will not break me.
Anyone who is rude enough to piss me off would have probably been a lousy tip anyway.
I can read people quite well after 20 years in the business.
If you are just polite to your server, all will go well.
whistle at them....... or hoot aloud''waiter.....wai.....terr... '' ......of course not just say a polite excuse me n if you are lucky enough... the waiter will have eyes... so you can just raise your hand slightly and wave...... and if god and restaurant personnel are really kind to you.....you'll have someone serving you at your table..... and will always be beside your table
Whatever you do...do NOT snap your fingers or whistle!!! You have no idea what contempt we will have for you if you do that.
A slightly raised hand and "Excuse me" with a smile will get our attention just fine.
I have worked in the restaurant business for 20+ years.
In a good restaurant you should never have to call a server to you. They, (no matter how busy they are), should be paying attention to you and bring you everything you need, either with your food or before.
In cases you do have to call your server, just say "excuse me" and wave your hand in the air at them.
Hope this helps.
I usually find that a clear voiced "Excuse me" accompanied by waggling fingers and a smile usually works!
Whatever you do, dont try the "hiss hiss" method or "whistle to attention" method... it's embarressing and even insulting!!
just say with a rather raised but not yelling voice "excuse me Mam or Sir" ,whichever is appropriate. Or grab the arm of the next wait person that walks by and say.. "will you please get me my waitperson, thanks
call him the name on his name tag or the name he introduces himself as. or sir, you can wave and call his name, never snap the fingers, inless you have OG status

Lifting your hand in the air slightly, and saying "excuse me" should get their attention. If not, you can always ask the next waiter/waitress who walks by for some assistance.

the most tried and tested goes " excuse me"
also depends on the country...some places u can just wave without saying anything and u ll get attention.
also just eye contact always works
or raise your hand just a bit in very posh places

Do you mean call them over to your table?????
Just say, "excuse me", to any one of them that walks by and they will usually help you or go get your dedicated server/waiter to come by your table.
Hope I was understanding your question correctly.........
