i have anxiety and well the truth is you have to change your lifestyle; eating and excercise especially.
then you need to see a specialist to see what medication options there are for you and let me tell you from experience, the natural alternative medicine such as herbs are much more effective than psyciatric drugs in the long run.

How to Get Help for Anxiety Disorders:
Effective treatments for Anxiety Disorders including medications and psycho-social treatment are available and if someone has symptoms, a visit to the family physician is usually the best place to start. A physician can help determine whether the symptoms are due to an anxiety disorder, some other medical condition, or both. Where indicated, a referral to a qualified mental health professional may be beneficial.

I agree with Dazed, except about medications. There are many medications; and everyone has their own unique experience with them because our bodies are all different due to genetics, etc..
I have a good deal of experience in this field, and don't know of any non-prescription drugs or herbs that work for anxiety. A big problem with herbal remedies is that they are not regulated and don't have to prove that they actually do what they claim to do. But I do know that there are prescription drugs that can help with anxiety.
Many times, though, anxiety is more about stressors that people have in their lives that cause them worry. So maybe her advice about getting counseling would be the best place to start. A counselor can help you identify what's causing the anxiety and support you in getting the help that you need. Sometimes just talking with a professional can help reduce stress and anxiety.

i tried for years to deal with it on my own, then finally decided that talking to my primary care provider wouldbe the best thing. There were times i could not go out and meet my friends for dinner, etc, unless I was with them because of the complete anxiety i felt about going into a crowd or people...there was no logical; reason for it. I was prescribed Ativan, and it works WONDERS...you might want to talk to your doctor. There are many kinds of therapy, including medication that can take care of the problem...don't try to deal on your own, it doesn't get better all by itself..good luck, i know how you feel.

have been using some deep meditation Cd's that have helped me a lot thy cause a bunch of issues to surface though, i think it is so that you are faced with it and you can overcome the issue, the instructions for the program say to use the Cd's every day but i think that it is only a good idea to do this for the first six weeks of the program and then to use them at your own pace of maybe two or three times a week at least for me anyway, ALSO DON'T TURN THE VOLUME UP VERY LOUD AT ALL WHEN LISTENING TO THE CD'S (when listening to these Cd's you have to use a portable CD player with headphones) the company is called center-point (click on link)http://www.centerpointe.com

I find that if i sit down in a quiet room and read something i calm right down. It clears my head and allows me to see things more clearly in order to deal with them.
Drinking only makes the worry dissappear for a while, its still there when you get back...
