My female dog and female cat were raised together. Both are approximately 2 years old. The female dog is spayed, but the cat is not. Periodically--maybe once a month or two--my cat goes psycho on my dog. She hisses and attacks the dog with no provocation. It doesn't occur around food or any other animals or with any apparent reason. Truly "out of the blue."

At first my dog just seemed confused or amused. She's not so amused now. Lately she's been fighting back, so it's getting ugly. Last night I had to physically break them up, suffering some injuries in the process.

Probably the same reason "I" go ballistic once a month. We all have our moments....and hormones are a *****!

Unless you intend to breed the cat, fix the cat. Matters not if it be male or female, fix the cat. As for the seemingly unprovoked attacks, it happens. The only thing likely to abate the blitzkrieg is your dog fighting back, though my dogs don't....they just sigh, get up and leave.

It may be the same reason cats will for no apparent reason zoom around the house bouncing off the walls. Pent up "fight or flight" instinct. Your cat tends to go for the fight.

My cats freak out on a full moon. When there is a full moon I can hear my outdoor cats running back & forth on my roof.

Cat pms probably. I don't know. Put wiskers on your dog so she look like a big cat and teach her to meow.
