The links below should provide you with scriptural references. There are several interpretations about how universal salvation works. One theory would contend that some spend a short period of time in hell before receiving redemption. Another would contend that all souls spend a certain amount of time in a sort of limbo before passing on to redemption, and yet another would have all souls immediately redeemed. The first theory seems to be favored by those who feel the need of some kind of retribution for offenses committed during life.

A preacher friend of mine once asked if I didn't accept Hell, then what would be a person's motivation for being good? I answered that the primary motivation for being bad is the desire to get ahead, to gain more wealth and power than someone else. If the end result is that we all receive the same reward, no matter how much you lie, cheat or steal, then what is the motivation to be bad? Depends on which side you look at it from. Is the glass half full or half empty.

I am an atheist but I wonder why Christians can't figure out it is about the Bible not about inventing new religions. What is so hard about knowing what the Bible says? How many different Christian religions do you need to interpret the scriptures? Let's do it this way. Oh, I have a new way. The new and improved religion. Christians remind me of a soap factory that comes out with a new and improved version every couple of months. Does it take a University to understand the bible???? The scriptures were copied many times and most scriptures are accurately the same. The translations, adding to the scriptures, omitting some scriptures all alter the original scriptures that were well established. The scriptures were rewritten to please European scholars and their political motives later. The scriptures were written over and over to please man not to translate any words from a god. No god said all that is in the bible. Strip away the words of man and tell me what a god actually said to all the men that had god speak to them directly and see what is left. Don't include visions or dreams that the men claimed god spoke to them through. Where are the actual quotes of what god said directly in the day time when these men were being spoken to? I only want to hear the direct quotes. Make a bible with just god's actual words. Suggest this to the University. We want a lean bible with no human filler. No fudging just the actual words said by god speaking out of the sky. Again, no visions, dreams, etc. just the actual quotes of god spoken to men when they were wide awake in the day time. If the bible didn't have all the filler you would have no words from god that would keep the interest of anyone and the ancient jews who wrote the bible knew this. The bible had to entertain to keep the interests of the readers.
