I definitely smelled a harsh chemical (like a cleaning agent) outside a home tonight. I live in a nice neighborhood and don't want this around our kids. What do you think?

The USUAL smell for a meth lab is very heavy and is almost overpowering. It smells like ammonia (think cat box that shoulda been changed three weeks earlier) but that could depend on the components used to make it. If it is the typical lab the bad guys will use ANHYDROUS AMMONIA. With new regulations they are passing most of that now has a pink dye in it so some cookers are getting away from that and have reverted to other methods. If you suspect a lab IMMEDIATELY call police as they have a propensity to explode at times. You can make your call anonymously if you choose.

Whenever you smell toxins in the air, you should call the fire department, hazmat team, or local utility company, because if it is a gas leak they can send out a repair crew with "sniffers" to locate the gas leak. Don't assume that a chemical smell IS a meth lab & if DO decide to call the Police, DO NOT CALL THEM FROM YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. Why? The smart cooks know how to wire the entire neighborhood & they KNOW who is calling & what you are saying to the authorities. They hack into your phone lines & have internet access. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY AT RISK. GO OUT TO A MOVIE or PIZZA & call someone from that location. If the safety of your family is so important, then just think how you would feel if you found them dead when you came home from work. I'm not trying to scare you, but I have lived through the nightmare of labs & cooks & I will never be the same again from the botched attempt on my life. I wouldn't listen to people & they couldn't be honest with me because it might have cost them their lives. Don't try to be a hero. Just be a concerned homeowner & play by what you do as a normal citizen who has concerns & a homeowner who just wants to protect their property. These people aren't like the rest of the world, they are on a different planet & make Charlie Manson look like a schoolboy! Toxic smell & waste & illegal mechanic work & oil dumping are genuine concerns for starters. Remember, that only fools rush in!

Be careful with this one. You don't want to ruin someone's reputation over a new chlorine for their pool or them draining and replacing their car's coolant or something. I'd call the police, ask if they have any suspicions of drug activity in your neighborhood and explain the situation in full. Then let them decide whether or not to act on it.

Or, you could anonymously tip the police. They may have reports of activity, but nothing solid to act on. On an anonymous tip, they gain probable cause to search the property and can obtain a search warrant.

The chemical components mandatory to create meth are incredibly specific, so specific, they often do all scent an identical, and guy do they STINK. Forgot to point it smells of sulfur and ammonia.

I think you should go around your neighborhood and bang on every door in the area, and demand to go inside to look for illegal drugs. Explain that you smell chemicals, and that you know what drugs smell like so , you would like to check their home out. It's obvious that you know all about drugs, you must be one them! No offense, but good god why are you such a freak?Hey why don't you call 911 and tell them that your whole neighborhood is cooking meth! I bet you're a blond Republican!

Report it to the police. Have them notify a drug enforcement officer . They have drug dogs to sniff out any drugs
