Yes, they are. I would go into detail but there are so many topics to cover I'd be one of those people who write novels as answers. Great question.

In religion wise, yes, most of people are afraid of the truth. They are most afraid of the restrictions imposed by the God. A good example is the Atheist, they deny the existence of God, but they don't realize that they can't run away from the truth that their souls will return to where it belongs.

How many people really look in the mirror? It is not the truth of God or the Universe that people fear. Rather, it is the truth of self that is feared.

Also, the mind can be very trixy. When one tries to look at oneself, one finds many obstacles that distract and confine. In order to embrace the truth of existence, one must let go of their confines. Yet, these confines seem to strive to exist - they resist absolution with fear. There is an endless tangle.... One must try to continually look deeply, and ultimately let go.

I agree with mr mister mister mr: most people dont care to know the truth. They would rather believe what THEY believe because it suits them. The real truth may not suit their purposes in life. So they dont even TRY to find out what the truth is. They rather live with blinders on. Poor souls.
