This is a difficult subject to explain, But I will try to explain it in this way........... this is a short version..
Essau, When he gave up his heritage to Jacob, For some some slop. Essau left his home, And started up a group called Edomites, (Edom is now called Jordan) That lived in Edom, And when the Roman Came the Edomites block the Hebrews escape passages out of what is now called Israel. And the Romans slaughtered thousands of Hebrews. Then the people of Edom moved into Canaan and change the name of Canaan to Edom, Then after a while they change the name of Edom back to Canaan and the original Edom no longer exist for now for Israel in now their home. So now after they mix in with the original Hebrews and They became one with just a few differences. Also the Jews that are living in Israel now Not the original Hebrews because they are the children of Essau that has no rights to the land of Israel, Now after all of that, they named themselves Jews and that name and title have stuck. Now the name Hebrew is no longer used any more because they are the real Edomites and not in-titled to that name. So the current fact is, These current Jews that inhabit Israel now are not the real owners of Israel................... I do hope you understand what I have written. One more thing why do the current Jews do not like being called Hebrews?. Simply because they are not and they can never be Hebrews.

Abraham has only 2 sons Ismail and Isak (who is the the father of Yakoob or Jakob) if u mean Ismail by Essau, he is the grand grand father of our prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him - PBUH)
he was born in the middle east. Prophet Abraham (which was renamed to Ibrahim) Left his second wife Hagar and her son Ismail near to Makkah (the Holly Land of All Muslims and Located now in Saudi Arabia) where other people came live near them after the Zamzam was digged after a miracle from God. this a small Brief about Ismail.
Yakoub was not the son of Ibrahim he was his his grand son of Isak or Is-Hak

Essau, and his decendents became the Edomite people. They were a Semitic-speaking tribal group inhabiting the Negev Desert and the Aravah valley of what is now southern Israel and adjacent Jordan. The nation ceased to exist after the Roman Jewish wars.
