those that tout secularism should have a double standard. Else they do accept religion in society but only when it suits them.

So if you are secular you want to have religious and spiritual occasions but have the nerve to knock it also.

No, we need holidays. It's nice to have traditions. It is fun to relax and watch kids on those days, and have memories of easter egg hunts, or a cool Halloween costume. It's part of our historical and cultural heritage.
Most of us atheist/secular whatever-you-want-to-call-us enjoy a good time and a day off work as much as the next guy.....just don't expect me acknowledge anything other than fantasy superstition and mythology behind those events.
EDIT
I agree with Jessetfan too

I don't think they should be banned. I don't think they should be national holidays though. I think it would be fair to make all those religious holidays normal working days and instead give everyone a certain amount of extra days off that they can use as they wish, so that everyone could have days off on their own religious holidays instead of everyone having them on those Christian holidays. That way Christians could still celebrate Christmas and others could celebrate whatever event is important to them.

Some holidays that we observe are pagan rituals in origin. People like sticking to traditions especially if they are enjoyable. We cannot just do away with these celebrations. Besides, why do we celebrate our birthday every year when it only adds another year for us to grow old.

How boring!
What would have left? Patriotic stuff? Arbor day.
We would need something to mark the solstices and change of seasons.
Supernatural is part of being a human being. We are special.

I think in terms of companies that all holidays should be recognized or none. It isn't fair for those who don't observe Christian holidays to have them forced upon them. If I do not celebrate these holidays I should have the option to work on them and observe the holidays of my religion if I choose. While I celebrate these holidays I am aware that not everyone does, and we should be respectful of that.

Don't forget "Earth Day" and "UN Day" and "Kwanzaa" -- all based on some peoples' fervent personal beliefs.
